Tennessee State Parks is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Trail Assessment Coordinator to join our team. As a Trail Assessment Coordinator, you will play a vital role in assessing the safety, accessibility, and quality of trails within our park system. This position requires the use of specialized equipment, including a HETAP (High-Efficiency Trail Assessment Process) machine and UTAP (Universal Trail Assessment Process) process, to assess and evaluate trail conditions. Key Responsibilities:



  • Utilize a HETAP machine and UTAP process to conduct trail assessments and evaluate trail conditions.

  • Perform detailed inspections of trails, including surface conditions, erosion, obstacles, signage, and overall trail integrity.

  • Document and report trail assessment findings accurately and promptly.

  • Collaborate with park management and maintenance teams to prioritize and address trail maintenance and repair needs.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of trail maintenance plans.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures during trail assessments.

  • Maintain and calibrate equipment to ensure accurate and reliable trail assessments.

  • Travel to various state parks within Tennessee to conduct trail assessments.

  • Must possesses the capability to vertically elevate an object weighing 50 lbs. by a distance of 12 inches.

Requirements:



  • Physical fitness and ability to walk long distances in rough terrain, often carrying equipment.

  • Proficient computer skills, including data entry, report writing, and email communication.

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, managing time and priorities effectively.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document findings.

  • Knowledge of trail maintenance practices and principles is preferred but not required.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and equipment.

  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to different state parks within Tennessee.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • We highly encourage college students pursuing majors in Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, Natural Resources, Biology, Architecture, or Engineering to submit their applications.
