Job Description - Training Officer

So, what will the Training Officer at Terrestris do? The Training Officer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering training programs to support operational readiness and staff compliance within a short-term detention facility at Fort Bliss, Texas. This role ensures all personnel are trained in accordance with federal regulations, facility-specific procedures, and standards established by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and related agencies. The Training Officer plays a vital role in maintaining safety, security, and professional conduct across all facility operations.

What does a typical day look like for a Training Officer?

You will:

  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive training programs for new hires and existing staff.
  • Conduct classroom instruction, hands-on training, and scenario-based exercises focused on safety, security, detainee rights, emergency procedures, and facility protocols.
  • Maintain accurate training records and ensure compliance with all training mandates.
  • Ensure training aligns with applicable standards such as Performance-Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS), DHS guidelines, OSHA regulations, and other contractual or legal obligations.
  • Conduct periodic training needs assessments and update training content based on operational changes or audit findings.
  • Coordinate with operations leadership to identify emerging training needs based on facility incidents, performance trends, or regulatory changes.· Assist in the preparation and execution of facility inspections, drills, and compliance audits.
  • Provide remedial training or coaching when performance issues are identified.
  • Maintain detailed training logs and documentation for auditing purposes.· Track staff certifications and re-certification requirements (e.g., first aid/CPR, restraint techniques).
  • Submit periodic training reports to management and external oversight agencies as required.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the professional we’re looking for if you have:

  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Certified Instructor in areas such as defensive tactics, use of force, CPR/First Aid, or similar.
  • 3+ years of experience in training, corrections, military, law enforcement, or detention operations.
  • Experience conducting adult education or workforce training preferred.· Knowledge of detention facility operations, use of force protocols, and emergency response.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.· Proficiency in MS Office Suite and digital training platforms.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain required government clearance.
