When a family loses someone, the first Vertin associate they often meet is our Transfer Care Specialist. Your calm presence and compassion set the tone for everything that follows. Pedersen Funeral and Cremation Service and Starbuck Funeral Home are adding two Transfer Care Specialists. You’ll help bring loved ones into our care with dignity and respect.

• $20.00 per hour
• $50 for each scheduled on-call shift
• $150 per transfer

Schedule

• After-hours on-call shifts, 5:00 PM – 8:00 AM
• With two specialists, you’ll typically be on call every other night. Weekends are part of the rotation.
• When a call comes in, you’ll be expected to be at the funeral home within 30 minutes to pick up the van and on site within 1 hour
  

What you’ll do

• Respond to transfer calls during your on-call shifts. These are usually at homes, hospitals and nursing homes.
• Work independently under the supervision and license of a Funeral Director. 
• Speak with families, nursing staff and facility staff with compassion and professionalism
• Verify identification and complete release and chain-of-custody paperwork accurately
• Follow safety procedures, including universal precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE), which we provide
• Drive the company transfer van safely, and keep the van and equipment clean and ready
• Help as a funeral assistant at visitations and services when needed
• Keep every family’s information private

What you’ll bring

• A high school diploma or GED
• A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
• Transfer Care Specialist Certification with Minnesota Department of Health. 
• The ability to lift up to 100 lbs with a partner, and to bend, kneel and move a cot through stairs and tight spaces.
• Availability for overnight and weekend on-call shifts
• A calm, professional manner in emotional and sometimes difficult situations
• A team-first attitude and attention to detail

Nice to have: Experience in healthcare, hospice, EMS, caregiving or another medical field. 

Training and support

You’ll get hands-on training from our funeral directors on site, usually within your first month. It covers transfer procedures, safe lifting and bloodborne pathogen safety. You’ll never do this work alone.
