The Williams Center is the largest and most comprehensive oral history repository in the state of Louisiana, and one of the largest in the South. The nationally recognized Center was founded in 1991 to document Louisiana's culture and history through oral history interviews representing multiple perspectives; to preserve and make them available to researchers, and to actively engage in outreach, assisting university and public community members in learning about oral history research, and in creating their own projects.
Responsibilities:
Conducts oral history interviews, acts as an audio engineer. Project Focus would be on documenting Hurricanes Katrina/Rita for the 20th Year Commemoration with an emphasis on institutional preparation, response, recovery at the state and federal levels including the State Emergency Operations Center (GOHSEP EOC), Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA), LADODT, LSU, US Army National Guard, etc. Process involves thorough background research, arranging interviews and team logistics, compiling completed biographical data sheets, indexing, and ensuring all copyright and informed consent paperwork is complete; Keeps appropriate records and statistics associated with these tasks; Other duties as assigned, such as records accessioning, digitization, and public outreach.
