WORK SCHEDULE: Varies Monday–Saturday with a hybrid work arrangement. This role offers flexibility for office responsibilities while providing occasional backup support for early morning transportation routes and after-school/evening events when substitute bus driver coverage is unavailable.
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Major responsibilities of the Transportation Coordinator position is to plan, direct, and coordinate all functions pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the school transportation.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Must hold a Class B Commercial Driver's License
An Indiana State School Bus Committee Standard Certificate (yellow card)
Candidates must possess prior experience driving a bus, preferably in a school or commercial transportation setting
Experience supporting school transportation operations or student transportation services is preferred
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have a clear understanding of transportation safety
Ability to perceive, visualize, and accurately judge physical position
Excellent verbal and written communication
Ability to reason and problem solve
Ability to adapt and be flexible in daily routine along with different age students
Must be able to operate two-way radio, computer, general office supplies and equipment
Must be able to operate basic hand tools to keep buses in clean condition for passengers
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures safe operations and follows all laws, procedures, and regulations governing school transportation
Oversee compliance for drug and alcohol testing requirements and auditing for drivers
Schedule bus drivers to work transportation schedules including requests for field trips and extracurricular activities, while providing bus driver route coverage as needed
Supervise general maintenance requirements with attention to safety inspections
Oversee drivers, driver training, and school transportation records
Maintains order and discipline on school transportation and communicates with parents and school administration as required
Communicate with parents and school staff regarding route updates
Record student attendance and communicate billing to Finance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb stairs for extended periods throughout the workday.
Ability to enter and exit a school bus multiple times daily and safely operate a commercial vehicle when providing route coverage.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds occasionally with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, including reaching, crouching, and climbing as needed.
Ability to use a computer, keyboard, telephone, two-way radio, and other office equipment for extended periods.
Ability to visually monitor students, traffic conditions, and transportation operations while maintaining situational awareness.
Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Works primarily in a hybrid office environment with regular time spent at school campuses, transportation areas, and on school buses.
Frequently interacts with students, families, school staff, and bus drivers in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
May work outdoors in varying weather conditions while supervising transportation operations, conducting bus inspections, or assisting with student loading and unloading.
Occasionally drives a school bus to provide route coverage when substitute drivers are unavailable.
Requires flexibility to work early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends to support transportation routes, field trips, extracurricular activities, and special events.
Requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to changing transportation needs, and make sound decisions under time-sensitive conditions.
May be exposed to vehicle noise, traffic, weather conditions, and routine school transportation hazards.
