All bargaining unit and exempt new hires to ODOT must serve a one year probationary period.

If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code.

This position has been designated as a Career Professional position per the Ohio Revised Code 5501.20.

All exempt promotions are required to serve a 6 month probationary period.

This position is overtime exempt based on FLSA Standards.

Valid driver's license required to operate state vehicle.

Training and Development Required to Remain in the Classification After Employment:  Renewal of licensure as registered professional engineer as prescribed by law.

Unusual Working Conditions: May require travel where employee must provide own transportation; may be exposed to unsafe conditions when conducting inspections; may work varying hours.


What You Will Do:

  • Oversee and guide engineering design activities, ensure high‑quality plan development, technical accuracy, and alignment with project standards.
  • Provide direct supervision to engineering and technical staff, including assigning work, monitoring progress, evaluating performance, coaching staff, and managing leave approvals.
  • Develop, review, and sign engineering plans and documents for highway and bridge projects, applying geometric, hydraulic, and structural design principles using CADD tools.
  • Coordinate with District Survey and maintain accurate project data within systems such as ELLIS, TMS, and BMS to ensure compliance with business rules and procedures.
  • Conduct field reviews, prepare design revisions, recommend repairs or replacements, and evaluate engineering reports, bids, and change orders for construction projects.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal offices, consultants, FHWA, and local agencies; represent the department in meetings, court proceedings, and conferences, and travels to project sites as needed.
