Position Summary

The Transportation Project Manager plays a key role in delivering impactful transportation solutions for the communities BENEN serves. In this leadership-focused role, you will manage and guide transportation planning and design projects for local, county, and state agencies—including Caltrans—while supporting the growth, quality, and consistency of BENEN’s Transportation Sector.

You will leverage your transportation engineering background and project management expertise to lead multidisciplinary teams from early planning and scoping through final PS&E delivery. Your work will directly influence how transportation projects are planned, delivered, and implemented—ensuring schedules, budgets, and quality expectations are met while advancing safe, efficient, and resilient transportation networks.

As a Transportation Project Manager, you will oversee the successful delivery of projects by coordinating teams, managing scope, schedule, and budget, and serving as a key point of contact for clients and stakeholders. You will uphold rigorous quality standards, mentor staff, and collaborate closely with agency partners to deliver practical, innovative, and community-focused transportation solutions.

Essential Responsibilities

Internal Focus

• Provide project leadership, coordination, and oversight for transportation planning and design projects.


• Support the development and refinement of internal project management practices, tools, and templates to improve consistency and efficiency.


• Mentor Engineers, Designers, and Technicians by supporting professional development, task execution, and collaboration across teams.

Project and Staff Focus

• Manage transportation projects from planning through PS&E, including scope definition, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.


• Oversee key elements of roadway and transportation design such as geometrics, roadway drainage, signing and striping, traffic handling and staging concepts, and construction cost estimates.


• Coordinate and direct the preparation of engineering reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.


• Assign and balance workloads across project teams to maintain schedules and meet project milestones.


• Monitor project progress, budgets, and risks, proactively addressing issues to ensure successful delivery.


• Provide delegated responsible-charge support in coordination with senior technical staff.

External and Client Focus

• Serve as a primary or key point of contact for clients on assigned projects.


• Lead client and stakeholder meetings, progress updates, and coordination efforts with professionalism and clarity.


• Support issue resolution, schedule coordination, and scope management to maintain strong client satisfaction.


• Build and maintain trusted relationships with local and county agencies, Caltrans, and private-sector partners.

Business Development Focus

• Lead proposal development, including technical narratives, scopes of work, schedules, and fee estimates.


• Identify opportunities for additional services within existing client accounts and support long-term client growth.


• Participate in industry events, conferences, and professional organizations to strengthen BENEN’s visibility and market presence.


• Lead and develop strategic growth initiatives within the Transportation Sector.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.


• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.


• 10+ years of progressive experience in transportation and roadway design and project management.


• 3+ years of related project management and/or team leadership experience and training.


• Demonstrated experience managing transportation projects, including scope, schedule, and budget.


• Proficiency with MicroStation (InRoads/OpenRoads) and/or Civil 3D.


• Strong communication and organizational skills, including client coordination and presentation abilities.

Compensation

Salary aligned with mid to senior project management responsibilities. $140,000 - $175,000
