Job Description - Transportation Specialist

Organization

High Country Community Health (HCCH) is a federally funded Community and Migrant Health Center with medical locations in Watauga, Avery and Burke Counties. The mission of High Country Community Health is to provide comprehensive and culturally sensitive primary health care services that may include dental, mental and substance abuse services to the medically under-served population of Avery, Burke and Watauga and the surrounding rural communities.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

This position will serve as a transportation assistance staff person. The position will work with the various HCCH medical, dental, and behavioral health programs and scheduling staff to retrieve and return patients who need transportation assistance. This position will also hold the primary responsibility to make financial deposits for the Watauga medical and dental clinics.

Responsibilities include:

- Work with clinic schedulers to pick up and return patients who have appointments with HCCH providers

- Work with scheduling staff to pick up and return HCCH patients to referred specialist appointments

- Collaborate with HCCH office and practice manager staff to effectively transport as many patients as possible, grouping patients for
appointments where feasible

- Serve as the primary HCCH employee to transport financial deposits from clinic(s) in Watauga County to bank using company vehicle

- Maintain the primary company transport car through required North Carolina annual inspection, routine cleanings, and scheduled
maintenance service visits.

- Maintain general awareness of vehicle condition and cleanliness and schedule prompt service appointments if an issue arises.

- Be courteous and respectful to patients while transporting

- Work with case managers and other staff who can offer transportation assistance if issues arise where assistance cannot be provided

- Obey all traffic laws and operate vehicles in a safe manner.

- Track and report number of transports at month end to supervisor

- Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Requirements/Skills/Experience

  • Ability to operate motor vehicles in a safe manner
  • Ability to plan and follow a schedule to maximize transportation assistance efficiency
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to drive in minor inclement weather
  • Professional and courteous demeanor
  • Ability to be in a vehicle and drive for extended periods

Qualifications:

Clean driving record. Knowledge of northwestern North Carolina geography and roads.

Training/Requirements: provided by HCCH upon acceptance of position
