Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving multiple design and building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

The Hondo Maintenance Office is located in Medina county just west of San Antonio. Our Maintenance personnel are responsible for maintaining over 800 lane miles, including the major corridors on US 90 and IH 35. We use practices such as base repair, maintainer level up, pothole repair, sign/delineation maintenance, and other operations to keep state roadways safe for the traveling public. Transportation Specialist I (B19)\: $48,244- $76,028
Transportation Specialist II (B20)\: $51,158- $81,351
This position is for a Transportation Specialist I or II depending on business needs and applicant qualifications. TxDOT reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on business needs and the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education\: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience\:
Transportation Specialist I\: 2 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience.
Transportation Specialist II\: 4 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience.
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Licenses and Certifications\: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with "N" endorsement
Competencies:
Maintaining effective working relationships with others
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection
