Responsibilities

Work to create a safe and secure environment for patients, employees, students, and visitors. Assist all individuals in understanding and conveniently utilizing
Hospital facilities. Provide a first response to emergency situations, and coordinate with outside emergency personnel, like fire and police.

SECURITY OFFICER:
Actively participates in the Hospital's Continuous Quality Improvement. The Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) Demonstrates commitment to CQI by working together and acting in the team's best interest by participating in team activities.
(2) Continuously evaluates the needs and expectations of external, as well as internal customers and strives to improve upon or exceed expectations.
(3) Has demonstrated utilization of CQI problem solving process.
(4) Participates in CQI education such as CQI classes, reading articles, etc
(5) Demonstrates support for Hospital initiatives and goals by performing other duties as assigned.

SECURITY OFFICERS:
Exhibit professionalism in every action, verbal communication, or written communication. Attend meetings and in services, participates in daily huddles as
assigned in accordance with departmental policy. The Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) Submit timely and accurate time sheets.
(2) Set an example to all employees by understanding and complying with all departmental and Hospital policies and procedures. Practice good
personal hygiene, proper grooming, and adheres to departmental dress code.
(3) Maintain confidentiality of patient and fellow employee information uncovered in the course of duty.
(4) Maintain the continuity of information flow between work shifts and among Security staff. Provide verbal updates and maintain radio
communications as necessary for pending issues, emerging problems or disruptions.
(5) Participate in duties related to hospital events and other special events.
(6) Demonstrates leadership ability to train and instruct new officers or present staff transitioning into an officer position.
(7) Reports to work with all tools required and hand off tools and equipment to oncoming shift.

SECURITY OFFICER II:
Create an atmosphere of well being and security by maintaining a regular presence throughout the campus areas assigned. The Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) Complete, at least, two patrols of all assigned areas during shift based on officer availability including nursing unit rounding on campus and
satellites. Check to assure that all doors and windows are secured in assigned areas. Inspect areas to prevent fire, theft, or unauthorized access.
(2) Monitor parking program by controlling access to parking areas and maintaining any gatesystems. Collect toll monies from any parking fee collection systems that are in use. Monitor parking areas by issuing parking notices for vehicle violations.
(3) Execute heliport responsibilities. Ensure the American Flag is displayed properly on campus and it is in good condition. Monitor the use of visitor ID’s after designated hours of theday and employee identification badge compliance.
(4) Participate in fire drills, emergency management drills, child abduction drills, and other special events to practice response techniques and
implement recommended corrective actions.
(5) Respond to Code Oranges, Code Purples, Code Pinks, and visitor control requests as needed for all hospital facilities.
(6) Document all incidents and activities relative todaily assigned duties or directives. Devices requiring documentation are fire inspectionsheets, panic buttons and NORA extensions, fire extinguishers, AEDs, and elevator phones. Report malfunctioning equipment, unsafe grounds, and other facilities problems to Call Center or via online process.
(7) Monitor employee compliance with policies and procedures established for their safety and security while commuting around campus. Respond to Code Oranges, Code Purples, Code Pinks, and visitor control requests as needed for all hospital facilities.

SECURITY OFFICER III:
Demonstrates ethical behavior. The Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) Demonstrates awareness of health and wellbeing in the work place by completing educational offerings and practicing standard precautions and use of PPE.
(2) Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by making responsible use of time, tools, supplies, and equipment on the job.
(3) Demonstratessocial responsibility by respecting the rights and privacy of patients, staff, visitors and physicians.
(4) Demonstrates compassion by treating others with respect, avoids being judgmental, takes time to listen and react with understanding.
(5) Demonstrates integrity by working in a professional, competent manner, being responsible and dependable while taking pride in performance of job duties.
(6) Demonstrates excellence by performing quality work, maintains a positive outlook and strives for continuing quality improvement.
(7) Demonstrates justice by abiding by Hospital policies and procedures, maintaining ethical behavior, and being accountable for conduct.
SECURITY OFFICER IV:
Demonstrates punctuality and good attendance. The Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) Adjusts schedule to accommodate Hospital needs and special events when required.
(2) Reports to work on time and is ready for duty in accordance with department Tardy policy.
(3) Plans in advance for special days off, does not abuse time.
(4) Gives adequate notice to supervisor when calling in sick or late, according to Hospital standards.
(5) Maintains acceptable attendance record consistent with Hospital and department policy.
(6) Ensure the accuracy of personal time through the proper use of the Kronos application by swiping in and out correctly, including OT reconciliation.
(7) Ensure proper notification to supervision for reconciliation of timecard.

SECURITY OFFICER V:
Provide a good first impression of the Hospital for patients and visitors. Assist patients, visitors, and employees in navigating through the Hospital’s facilities. The Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) Control traffic situations that may cause an accident or traffic jam. Coordinate the temporary closure of facilities or public areas due to malfunction, accidents, construction, maintenance, or inclement weather. Effectively re route patients and visitors to their destinations.
(2) Tactfully and politely answer general questions about Hospital services, special events, or facilities. Provide escorts or wayfinding to any visitor or patient in need. Provide a first response to car trouble. Jump a dead battery, assist a stranded driver in obtaining towing or repair services.
(3) Assist individuals in finding safe and convenient parking on campus. Assist handicapped, disabled, and physicallychallenged individuals in finding a wheelchair, litter, or other ADA equipped devices.
(4) Monitor patient and visitor compliance to rules and regulations provided for their safety and comfort, such as smoking, cell phone use, etc. Unlock and lock doors for staff that may have lost or forgotten identification badge or keys.
(5) Assist with salting, cinders, and snow removal when conditions warrant.
(6) Maintain sensitivity to the age or ethnic related preferences of patients, staff, and visitors.
(7) Participate in the process of receiving and releasing bodies in the morgue.

SECURITY OFFICER VI:
Serve first as a deterrent, and then, when necessary, take steps to protect patients, staff, and visitors from aggressive or violent behaviors. The
Responsibility and Accountability 'meets standards' when:
(1) Lead other patient care staff in subduing aggressive or violent patients, visitors, or fellow staff.
(2) Staff assigned posts when credible threats of violence are received including lockdowns and patient and visitor controls.
(3) Investigate reports of suspicious persons, unusual circumstances, or criminal acts.
(4) Maintain accurate records of all calls for assistance or reports of a crime.
(5) Maintain a rapport with local fire and police departments, andexercise good judgment in emergency interactions with them.
(6) Provide a first response to fires, disasters or other emergencies. Initiate emergency calls to Security Command Center for fire and police. Provide outreach to the local campus, and all satellites when necessary.
(7) Exercises good communication and conflict management skills to diffuse angry or upset individuals.
