Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Obstetrics Registered Nurse (OB RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Atlantic, Iowa.

This position is ideal for an RN with recent obstetric nursing experience who is comfortable caring for patients throughout labor and delivery, postpartum, and recovery.

The nurse should also be flexible and willing to float to the Medical-Surgical unit when there are no active obstetric patients.

Candidates must have at least 1 year of recent OB nursing experience and current American Heart Association BLS certification.

Key Responsibilities

·        Provide direct nursing care to obstetric patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum.

·        Perform ongoing maternal and fetal assessments.

·        Monitor labor progression and identify changes in maternal or fetal condition.

·        Monitor fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activity.

·        Assist physicians and other providers during vaginal deliveries and obstetric procedures.

·        Provide immediate postpartum care to mothers.

·        Monitor maternal vital signs, bleeding, pain, and recovery after delivery.

·        Provide routine newborn support and education within scope of practice.

·        Administer medications, IV fluids, and other treatments according to provider orders.

·        Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and discharge instructions.

·        Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

·        Participate in shift handoffs and interdisciplinary communication.

·        Follow hospital safety, infection-control, and obstetric-care standards.

·        Respond appropriately to maternal or newborn changes in condition.

·        Float to the Medical-Surgical unit when there are no obstetric patients and provide nursing care within demonstrated competency.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:

·        Active Registered Nurse license meeting Iowa practice requirements

·        Minimum 1 year of recent Obstetrics RN experience

·        Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association

·        Experience with labor and delivery

·        Postpartum nursing experience

·        Recovery experience

·        Strong maternal assessment skills

·        Ability to work effectively in a small or flexible acute-care environment

·        Willingness and ability to float to Med-Surg when needed

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates may also have:

·        Labor & Delivery experience

·        Electronic fetal monitoring experience

·        Newborn care experience

·        Previous travel nursing experience

·        Med-Surg nursing experience

·        Experience in a community or rural hospital setting

·        NRP certification

·        ACLS certification

·        Fetal monitoring certification

Float Requirement

When there are no active obstetric patients, nurses are expected to float to the Medical-Surgical floor.

Candidates should therefore be comfortable providing basic acute-care nursing support outside the OB department and adapting to changing patient census and staffing needs.

Schedule Requirements

·        Night Shift

·        Three 12-hour shifts per week

·        36 hours per week

·        Weekend and holiday coverage may be required based on department scheduling.

·        Float assignments may vary depending on OB census.
