About the Role
We’re looking for a Traveling Pipelayer that will be responsible for performing tasks related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground piping systems. This role works closely with operators, laborers, and project supervisors to ensure water, sewer, and storm drain piping is installed safely, accurately, and efficiently. The Pipelayer must be able to interpret instructions, operate equipment, and perform physical labor in varying site conditions while upholding safety and quality standards.
Core Responsibilities
Pipe Installation and Repair
Install, repair, and maintain underground piping systems including water, sewer, and storm drain.
Lay pipe to proper grade and slope based on project specifications.
Perform trench excavation, backfilling, and compaction to prepare sites for pipe installation.
Use hand tools and small equipment to cut, fit, and connect pipes.
Inspect completed pipe installations for alignment, sealing, and functionality.
Equipment Operation
Operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, mini-excavators, and trenching equipment under supervision.
Use compaction equipment, pipe lasers, and other construction tools safely and effectively.
Perform basic equipment checks and report maintenance needs.
Site Preparation and Support
Assist with trench shoring, bedding placement, and installation of pipe supports.
Assist operators and other crew members with lifting, moving, and placing materials.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Safety and Compliance
Adhere to company and site safety programs at all times.
Identify and report unsafe conditions or practices to supervisors.
Comply with OSHA, environmental, and company-specific safety requirements.
Use proper PPE and follow trenching and excavation safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
2 or more years of experience in heavy civil construction or underground utility installation.
Knowledge of underground pipe installation methods, grades, and slopes.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Experience operating heavy equipment such as skid steers and mini-excavators.
Physical ability to perform labor-intensive work, including trenching, lifting, and working in confined spaces.
Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to OSHA standards.
Experience with laser-guided pipe installation.
Trench and excavation competent person training.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Experience working on municipal, DOT, or large-scale civil projects.
