Traveling Superintendent – Commercial Construction
Location: Southeast Alaska
Travel: Project-based throughout Southeast Alaska
Compensation: $105K–$125K
An established general contractor is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to lead field operations on commercial and industrial construction projects throughout Southeast Alaska.
This is a hands-on field leadership role for a Superintendent who can take ownership of the jobsite, lead both self-perform crews and subcontractors, and maintain strong control over safety, schedule, productivity, and quality.
What You'll Do
Serve as the primary onsite construction leader from mobilization through punch list and turnover.
Direct daily activities of self-perform crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and other field personnel.
Track production, manpower, labor hours, and percentage complete for self-performed work.
Develop and maintain short-interval schedules and participate in overall project scheduling.
Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and proactively prevent trade conflicts.
Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings to identify constructability issues.
Develop detailed RFIs and work with project management and design teams to resolve field issues.
Plan upcoming work, deliveries, site logistics, manpower requirements, and subcontractor activities.
Lead jobsite safety efforts, toolbox talks, orientations, and ongoing safety compliance.
Monitor workmanship and quality to ensure work is completed correctly the first time.
Identify productivity issues and implement solutions to improve field performance.
Coordinate closely with Project Managers while serving as the onsite point of contact for owners, designers, and trade partners.
Lead project punch list and field closeout activities.
Assist with recruiting, hiring, and building local crews when required by the project.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of commercial construction experience, including experience working for a commercial general contractor.
Proven Superintendent or field leadership experience on commercial or industrial projects.
Strong experience supervising self-perform labor and subcontractors.
Ability to manage manpower, productivity, short-term scheduling, safety, quality, and site logistics.
Strong understanding of construction sequencing and the ability to plan work several steps ahead.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, submittals, and other construction documents.
Experience developing work plans focused on safety, quality, and productivity.
Comfortable working with construction scheduling, PDF markup, and project-management/ERP systems.
Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with crews, PMs, subcontractors, owners, and design teams.
Willing and able to travel extensively throughout Southeast Alaska.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
