Job Description - Treasury Manager - Square Financial Services

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

The Role

The SFS Treasurer will lead the Bank's treasury function and play a critical, hands-on role in ensuring strong liquidity, funding, capital, and balance sheet risk management as the Bank scales. This role is ideal for a working treasury leader who builds and scales solutions by directly driving analysis and execution, developing a high-performing team, and partnering across the business to solve complex problems in a fast-moving fintech environment.

This position partners closely with executive leadership, governance committees, and cross-functional teams, and leads by example in a high-growth, collaborative, and solutions-oriented culture.

You Will

  • Lead the Treasury function for the Bank, ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations while remaining business-focused, and execution-oriented.

  • Act as a hands-on contributor— involved in liquidity analysis, funding strategy development, ALM analytics, and balance sheet optimization.

  • Oversee and actively participate in daily liquidity management, cash positioning, funding execution, and investment portfolio activities in accordance with Board-approved policies.

  • Maintain and evolve Asset-Liability Management (ALM) frameworks, including interest rate risk, liquidity risk, capital planning, and stress testing, with a focus on practical decision-making.

  • Partner with Finance, Risk, and Strategy teams to support enterprise stress testing and inform Board-approved liquidity and capital limits.

  • Present clear, actionable treasury analytics, risk insights, and funding recommendations to senior management and governance committees (ALCO).

  • Explore multiple solution paths with business partners, evaluate trade-offs, and help determine the best course of action for the Bank.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting, Risk, Compliance, Tax, Legal, Technology, Payments, and Product teams to support growth initiatives, new products, and operational improvements.

  • Manage external relationships with banks, custodians, payment providers, and other financial counterparties, acting as a trusted and credible partner.

  • Support regulatory exams and audits through strong preparation, clear documentation, and thoughtful engagement with regulators and auditors.

  • Maintain and enhance treasury policies, procedures, and controls to support FDICIA compliance while enabling efficient operations.

  • Build, mentor, and develop the treasury team by setting clear priorities, coaching through complex work, and fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.

  • Identify opportunities to improve treasury processes through automation, better data, new tools, and creative use of technology.

  • Optimize flow-of-funds frameworks across affiliates and products to support liquidity efficiency and balance sheet strategy.

  • Assess treasury implications of emerging technologies and payment models (e.g., real-time payments, stablecoins, digital assets, blockchain-enabled settlement), as permitted and appropriate.

  • Design scalable deposit and liability strategies that support rapid growth, evolving business models, and new product launches.

You Have

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in treasury, finance, or banking, with demonstrated leadership responsibility; experience within an FDIC-insured institution strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA, CFA, or CPA strongly preferred.

  • Deep, practical experience across core treasury disciplines, including liquidity management, ALM, funding, investments, and regulatory reporting.

  • Proven experience supporting and presenting to governance committees such as ALCO, or similar forums.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong team mentality with a track record of working effectively across functions and leading through influence.

  • A creative, solutions-oriented mindset—comfortable thinking beyond traditional approaches to meet business needs while maintaining strong risk discipline.

  • Experience mentoring and developing team members through hands-on leadership and knowledge sharing.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial and risk concepts for executives, regulators, and non-treasury partners.

  • Experience or strong interest in fintech innovation, including real-time payments, digital assets, stablecoins, or the application of advanced analytics and AI in treasury or risk management, preferred.
