ASU TRIO Programs seeks a Coordinator for the Student Support Services (SSS) Veterans (V) program at the Tempe campus. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the SSS V Coordinator performs a variety of professional activities for achieving program objectives. The coordinator supports students’ academic, personal and professional goals to help them retain and graduate from ASU. The ideal candidate works independently; is a strong individual contributor, as well as an effective team player, who can meet priority deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality, as well as develop a strong rapport with our students. The ideal candidate must work well in a fast‐paced, flexible environment, provide a high level of customer service to both the university and external communities, and make strong contributions both as an individual and as a team player.
 

Days and Schedule: Work location is primarily at the Tempe Campus; however, incumbent will be required to travel to off-campus events and travel to other ASU Campuses to perform work driving their own vehicle. This position is a Full-time position from Monday thru Friday 8AM to 5PM, evenings and weekends may be occasionally required.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and facilitate academic and personal skills and professional development workshops for SSS V students.

  • Provide students with the necessary information and support to be successful in academic courses at the university.

  • Assist with recruitment, selection and retention of program participants.

  • Work with students individually to provide guidance in various areas including academics, financial aid and career counseling.

  • Evaluate SSS V student needs and refer to appropriate university and community resources.

  • Hire, train, and supervise tutors and student employees.

  • Administer assessment instrument(s) to SSS V students, and record and document results.

  • Collaborate with other TRIO Programs to increase retention and graduation.

  • Support student and staff related technology needs.

  • Provide instructional support to students, as needed.

  • Collaborate with other university departments and community partners to assist with student retention and academic success.

  • Maintain confidential SSS student records in accordance with federal and university rules and regulations.

  • Support summer transition programming for first year students including transfer students.

  • Assist SSS V Program Director in planning and implementation of program goals and activities.

  • Assist SSS V Program Director in report writing activities related to the SSS V and help formulate information reported to the U.S. Department of Education and ASU.
     

Desired Qualifications:

  • Evidence of a Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education or related field Experience with TRIO, educational equity organizations and/or similar programs working with students from diverse backgrounds, including first generation, low-income, students with disabilities, and military veteran students

  • Experience in higher education or working with military veteran college students

  • Experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the program's target population, especially military veteran students

  • Experience with completing assigned projects in a timely manner and work well under priority deadlines

  • Experience with student engagement and retention efforts.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer skills including use of MS Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access), social media (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.), G Suite (e.g., Google Drive, Gmail, Hangouts, etc.) and ASU computer systems (e.g., Peoplesoft, Salesforce, Canvas, Zoom, Slack, etc.) Evidence of effective communication skills

  • Experience with completing assigned projects in a timely manner and work well under priority deadlines

  • Experience with grant writing, preferably federal grants

  • Experience in planning, scheduling, and supervising the work of others.

  • Develop and deliver presentations to groups

  • Use computers effectively – including inputting, reviewing and retrieving information, extended periods of viewing screen and using mouse and keyboard

  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze data

  • Research, develop, implement and assess programs

  • Develop budgets and monitor expenditures

  • Supervise students and/or staff

  • Communicate effectively

  • Walk throughout campus for meetings or events, regardless of the weather Work collaboratively to achieve objectives

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success. EOSS provides a broad range of services and support to students and prospective students ranging from outreach efforts with K-12 schools, orientation programs for new freshman, bridge programs to assist the transition to a university environment, and a wide variety of services, programs and activities for enrolled students. EOSS has direct responsibility for multiple departments across four campuses, some of which include the Dean of Students, University Housing, Health Services, Counseling Services, Disability Resources, the Memorial Union, TRIO programs, Sun Devil Fitness, Student Government, Student Media, Career Services, Access ASU and others
