Tunnel Operator

General Purpose

The purpose of this position is to operate tunnel washer systems to wash and dry soiled linen according to customer specifications and standard practices. This position is also responsible for the operation of the rail system, proper use of tunnels, presses, shuttles, conveyors, and dryers as required to successfully process production needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate a computer system that controls tunnel washers and shuttle systems, including understanding theory of operation and troubleshooting issues

• Understand and differentiate various types of linen and match to customer account codes to minimize processing errors

• Maintain cleanliness and safety in all assigned areas: tunnels, presses, MLA systems, and workstation

• Prepare laundry for processing by performing assigned tasks in areas such as multi-sort/trans-sort, tunnels/dryers, rail systems, and MLA

• Operate MLA systems for manual entry of soiled laundry when required

• Open bundles of soiled laundry push bags as needed to maintain workflow

• Maintain tunnel performance (e.g., transfers) according to company standards

• Report all mechanical issues to management or maintenance team

• Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Qualifications

• 1 year of laundry experience, or a combination of computer education and experience

• Intermediate to advanced computer literacy

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment

• Ability to communicate in English at an intermediate level to comprehend oral and written instructions

• Strong analytical skills to understand production flow requirements, including input/output procedures

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
