Job Description - TWEEN DIRECTOR @ Komatke Branch -Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gila River Indian Community

Description

Boys & Girls Club of the Gila River Indian Community is looking for a Tween Director  who is willing to direct the operation of all programs in a specific tween center, with primary concern for the program of activities.  Plans, develops, implements, coordinates and supervises tween programs. 

Relationships:

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and other to assist in resolving problems.

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Prepare Youth for Success

Establishes and maintains a tween program setting which ensures the health and safety of members, ensures tweens understand and follow standards of programs; that program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and the equipment is maintained in good working condition. Orders, maintains and ensures proper storage of equipment and supplies or the tween center.

  1. Develops and fosters a positive climate for tween development based on the mission and goals of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Ensures that tweens actively participate in a variety of programs and activities; seek advice and guidance from staff about problems; and receive caring, respect and recognition for their efforts.
  2. Plans and oversees the administration of programs and activities that support the Boys & Girls Club movement’s “Youth Development Strategy.” Establishes objectives consistent with the organizational goals and mission. Evaluates tween programs on a continual basis and ensures programs and activities address the gender and cultural diversity of members.
  3. Implements and directs daily teen programs and activities in the tween center. Ensures that teens are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas and activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s). Demonstrates dynamic leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of teens.
  4. Oversees guidance services to tweens to assist them in making appropriate and fulfilling choices in educational, personal, physical, social, emotional, vocational and spiritual needs.
  5. Manages administrative functions of the tween center and assigned resources. Ensures proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdown of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems or issues. Oversees programs within established budgetary guidelines.
  6. Recruits, recommends selection, and trains tween staff and volunteers.
  7. Promotes programs to tweens by posting a daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers, and media.
  8. Maintains close daily contact with club and tween staff, club and tween center members, supervisor and volunteers to receive/provide information, discuss issues, understand guidelines/instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel.
  9. Establishes an outreach program by maintaining contact with external community groups, school faculty, tweens, parents and others to assist in member recruitment, to provide information about services, to form collaborations, and encourage community mobilization in regard to tween issues.
  10. Manages the Torch Club, age-appropriate programming, and the Jr. Youth of the Year Programs.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  1. Preferred four year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  2. A minimum of two (2) years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of teens.
  3. Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
  4. Group leadership skills, including an understanding of teen issues and group dynamics.
  5. Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities
  6. Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications
  7. Valid Driver’s License (if applicable)

Additional Responsibilities:

1.  May participate in additional special programs and/or events

2.  May be required to drive Branch van.

3.  Evenings/weekend work involved.

4.  Other duties as assigned.
