The Apheresis Nursing Supervisor is responsible for administrative and patient care activities in a practice or center. Working closely with the Apheresis Facility and Medical Directors, the TCT Program, and the Ambulatory Oncology Nursing Leadership team, the Ambulatory Nursing Supervisor oversees the day to day clinical activities including scheduling of staff, patient flow/scheduling, safety and quality related matters and patient satisfaction. Responsible for oversight of all compliance and regulatory standards especially those related to Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), Good Tissue Practices (GTP) and Good
Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
Essential Job Functions:
Oversees and manages the clinical staff in the practice to ensure appropriate staffing and scope of practice for each individual position. Manages the Human Resource activities of direct reports including hiring, performance appraisal, competencies and ongoing performance management. Provides staffing coverage when the unit is understaffed.
Confers with physicians and advanced practice providers concerning the care and treatment of individual patients as needed. Evaluates patient acuity and care on a daily basis and intervenes as needed to meet the needs of the patients and providers
Works closely with the Apheresis Facility and Medical Directors and oversees all quality and safety initiatives in the practice or center. Thoroughly evaluates new procedures, programs or treatment protocols with the Apheresis Facility and Medical Directors and TCT Program to address all regulatory, compliance, staffing and equipment standards and needs. Coordinates and participates in collection facility audits and develops follow-up action reports. Develops, reviews, implements and maintains collection facility SOPs. Reviews quality metrics and implements process improvements. Represents Ambulatory Nursing and actively participates on UCMC Practice Councils.
Monitors patient flow and ensures that clinical staff are assessing patients and documenting findings appropriately in Epic.
Ensures that the nonclinical practice staff and clinical staff are communicating effectively so that patients are roomed in a timely manner and all clinical questions are addressed as needed
Collects data to track patient metrics, procedural variables, and outcomes for analysis.
Ensures that staff attends, participate, and complete mandatory educational programs and in-services per JCAHO regulations. Monitor compliance to achieve 100% completion of competencies. Administer competency testing.
Establishes training and orientation programs for all new clinical personnel including Medical Assistants, LPNs, RNs, Technicians and Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. Coordinates activities with the Research Nurses.
Performs therapeutic and donor apheresis procedures as needed to support patient care and operational needs.
Works closely with the Ambulatory oncology leadership team to address patient and physician satisfaction issues. Contacts patients to investigate concerns and work with staff and the leadership team to implement appropriate patient service recovery protocols. Reviews patient educational materials to ensure that they meet UCMC standards from both a professional and quality perspective.

Required Qualifications:
Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
