The UIMG Level I Sonographer functions as a compassionate entry-level healthcare provider, working under the delegated authority of Level II or III Sonographer and Clinical Manager. Staff sonographers serve as entry level medical imaging professionals who are working on building their clinical and technical skills in providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The Level I Sonographer role and responsibilities include providing sonography services and its various clinical specialties. Sonographer activities are performed consistent with their education and training, and in accordance with UIMG policies and procedures and professional standards.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES:
Individual must be professional in all aspects of the position including appearance, demeanor, and attitude and consistently display the highest level of integrity.
Graduated from an accredited ultrasound program
Registered or registry eligible through ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI (test scheduled/passed withing 90 days of hire)
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, perform well under pressure, meet deadlines, and work a flexible schedule
Must possess strong oral and written communication skills
Must pass a scanning interview
Demonstrate clinical & technical competence for routine exams in specialty trained for
Demonstrated proficiency with computer skills and software programs used for documentation and report generation
Proactively demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and lifeline learning. Can include increasing knowledge in advanced procedures or other specialties, joining societies, teaching others, getting an advanced degree
First 90 days:
Obtain credentialling and demonstrate competence in the specialty exams trained for
Demonstrate ability to elicit a relevant clinical history and review previous ultrasound exams
Must demonstrate proficiency/competency in physics and instrumentation of specified ultrasound equipment
Must demonstrate proper patient positioning, patient care and prober ergonomics competency
Must demonstrate proficiency and competency in performing routine normal exam protocols
Must demonstrate clinical competency in filling out the technical worksheets and presenting US cases
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Foster a collaborative and respective team environment with co-workers and externs
Prepare the examination room for the patient and use equipment in accordance with infectious disease policies and procedures
Must greet patients and escort them to the appropriate examination room
Obtain a detailed patient history and explain the process of the examination to patients
Conduct diagnostic ultrasounds by following the appropriate protocol as established by UIMG
Successfully upload studies to be accessed and read by the radiologist
Upon completion of examinations the sonographer must escort patients back to the waiting area to complete the appointment
Clean machines and probes following sterilization protocols
Excellent customer service
Comply with all regulatory agencies, UIMG policy, procedure and protocols
Be familiar with ASE.org practice guidelines (CVS)
Follow all HIPPA regulations and ensure staff and students do the same
Provide a quality experience for externs as outlined in the training externs policy
Sonographer must be with students during patient or volunteer ultrasounds exams
Sonographers are responsible to ensure students have cleaned, set up and restocked exam rooms
Assist students with questions about protocols, procedures and policies, and provide constructive feedback
Demonstrate respect and empathy towards students, acknowledging and accommodating their diverse personal differences and educational needs
Monitor student progress, report academic success issues and code of conduct violations to Clinical Manager using the appropriate forms and procedures
Additional duties as assigned by Clinic Manager and Diagnostic Radiologist
