Job Summary:

The Ultra sonographer is a critical member of the imaging department, performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations including general, vascular, and echocardiographic procedures. Working closely with radiologists and cardiologists, this role helps provide essential diagnostic data used in patient evaluation and care planning.

Essential Functions:

• Perform a wide range of ultrasound exams including abdominal, small parts, OB/GYN, vascular studies, and adult transthoracic echocardiograms.
• Evaluate clinical history and documentation to ensure complete and appropriate exams.
• Utilize independent judgment and adaptability during procedures to meet clinical needs.
• Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment; ensure image quality and proper technical protocols.
• Analyze sonographic findings and relay technical impressions to interpreting physicians.
• Maintain thorough documentation in PACS and EMR systems.
• Ensure patient safety, comfort, and dignity throughout each procedure.
• Adhere to all HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.
• Take call as scheduled and respond timely to emergent imaging needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Support the department’s goals for quality improvement and operational efficiency.
• Participate in staff training and continuing education efforts.
• Assist with equipment maintenance and notify leadership of malfunctions.
• Serve as a clinical resource to new hires or students when assigned.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, Cardiovascular Technology Program, or Radiologic Sciences Program.
• Certification:
  • Must have current ARDMS or ARRT (S) certification.
  • Vascular (RVT) certification
• Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience in performing echocardiograms required.
• Training: Must complete all annual CEU requirements and maintain current clinical knowledge.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

• Competent in the performance of echocardiograms, vascular Doppler studies, and general ultrasound.
• Strong anatomical knowledge and ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal findings.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records, PACS, and imaging workflow systems.
• Demonstrated ability to serve neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities with attention to detail.

Environmental & Physical Requirements:

• Frequent patient contact with exposure to bodily fluids and potentially infectious materials.
• Must be able to stand, move, assist patients, and lift equipment or patients as needed.
