Job Summary
Underground Crewman will be responsible for safely operating underground cable construction equipment including, but not limited to, locators, transmitters. This is a safety sensitive position. .

Duties/Responsibilities
Understand the functionality of equipment, including, but not limited to locators and transmitters, .
Operate and maintain equipment, including, but not limited to locators, transmitters,
Locates underground facilities by using a transmitter and hooking to a buried facility, pedestal, etc.
Ensures proper working condition of all equipment before use.
Perform new build and maintenance on ground jobs.
Identify and trouble shoot ground related problems.
Interpret and follow job order tickets and maps in order to bury facilities in rural and urban/commercial areas while safeguarding other utilities and the public.
Identify different colored wires, cables, and pipes while using and observing colored paint and/or marking flags to locate the path of a buried facility within that particular state’s prescribed tolerance zone.
Interpret job order tickets, available blue prints, and maps to efficiently route and determine the address and location of each locate order in urban and rural areas
Locate underground facilities by using a transmitter and hooking to a buried facility, pedestal, etc., as needed.
Perform standby, meet, emergency, and on call locates during regular, overtime, and holidays hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
Complete all job-related paperwork in a timely manner
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
Work safely, with or without supervision, following all company and OSHA related health and safety rules.
Effectively communicate and interact with customers, co-employees and third parties.
If a Lead Crewman, manage and train lower crewmen
Work in urban environment with excellent people skills
Performs other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in and walk over all types of terrain (grass, gravel, ditches, etc.) in and around construction zones, residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all types of weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, etc.)
Ability to identify different colored wires, cables, pipes, paint, etc.
Must be able to stand, lie, and kneel in awkward positions and spaces
Must be able to frequently lift and pull objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
Ability to remove and replace vault lids, climb in and out of trenches, utility holes or other confined or difficult to reach spaces.
Must have manual dexterity and physical strength necessary to operate tools and equipment.
Must have visual acuity to inspect equipment and identify defects.
Must be able to hear well enough to receive verbal instructions from a distance.
Requirements
Proficient in underground cable construction
Ability to operate equipment including, but not limited to, locators, transmitters, ditch diggers, etc.
Good manual dexterity.
Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
Ability to perform consistently under stressful conditions
