The role is about:

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Underwriting Officer to join our dynamic Risk Team. This role is focused on merchant underwriting and monitoring activities and ensuring our portfolio remains balanced and secure as the business scales.

In this role you will perform preliminary merchant reviews, gather essential information and assist with ongoing portfolio monitoring. Working closely with senior team members, you will analyze merchant risk profiles, identify potential concerns, and ensure compliance with internal policies and card scheme requirements.

Reporting Line: Head of Underwriting and Monitoring

What you will do:  

• Support merchant underwriting assessments by performing initial checks, collecting documentation, and assisting senior team members in reviewing merchant risk profiles
• Monitor merchant portfolios to identify unusual or suspicious activity and escalate findings where necessary
• Assist with the risk assessment, registration, and ongoing monitoring of third-party agents in line with card scheme requirements and internal policies
• Conduct an initial investigation of transaction patterns and identify activity that differs from expected behavior
• Respond to queries from prospective and existing merchants, providing support and escalating more complex cases when needed
• Ensure day-to-day activities align with company policies, card scheme requirements, and payment provider guidelines
• Support the preparation of merchant activity reports for portfolio reviews and audits
• Collaborate with Risk, CDD, Compliance, Relations, and Sales teams to support onboarding and monitoring activities
  

What we need:

Must-have

• 6 months to 2 years of experience in payments, merchant onboarding, AML, KYC, underwriting, transaction monitoring, or other risk-related roles within fintech or financial services
• Basic understanding of merchant onboarding and risk assessment processes
• Some understanding of payments, card acquiring, and transaction flows
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to review merchant information, websites, and transaction data to identify potential risks
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to follow internal procedures and compliance requirements in a regulated environment
• Good communication skills and ability to work with multiple teams including Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Sales
• Eagerness to learn and develop within the payments and risk industry

Nice-to-have

• Exposure to merchant underwriting, transaction monitoring, or ongoing merchant reviews
• Familiarity with card scheme basics (Visa Inc., Mastercard, American Express)
• Experience within acquiring, PSP, or fintech environments
• Exposure to fraud detection, chargeback monitoring, or merchant risk tools such as Similarweb, Semrush, Ballerine, G2 Risk, LegitScript
• Experience reviewing websites, merchant business models, or financial documents
• Interest in merchant risk management, fraud prevention, payments

 Our Hiring Process:

1. Video Assessment: If selected, you will complete a short video assessment (max 30 mins) via our platform, answering a few questions designed to assess your communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
2. TA Interview: Conducted by the Talent Acquisition team (35 min).
3. Final Interview: Conducted by the Head of Underwriting and Monitoring & the Chief Risk Officer (45 min).
