Job Description - Unity Prep - Elementary Scholar Support Specialist (2026-2027 School Year)

At Unity Prep, we believe that elementary school is where scholars build the foundational academic, social-emotional, and behavioral skills that prepare them for long-term success. The Scholar Support Specialist plays a critical role in helping scholars develop those skills within a joyful, structured, and supportive school environment. Working closely with school leadership, teachers, families, and the Scholar Support Team, the Scholar Support Specialist provides individualized and small-group behavioral and social-emotional support to scholars who need additional guidance navigating school expectations.

This role is rooted in proactive relationship-building, restorative practices, family partnership, and a belief that every child can meet high expectations when provided with consistent support and care.

Who You Are

  • An educator and youth advocate with an unwavering commitment to college success and authentic civic engagement for all scholars.

  • A relationship-builder who enjoys working with elementary-aged scholars and understands the importance of helping young children develop emotional regulation, self-advocacy, conflict resolution, and positive school habits.

  • A warm demander who can maintain high expectations while creating nurturing and developmentally appropriate support systems.

  • A reflective and equity-driven teammate committed to fostering an inclusive school community grounded in antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • A collaborative professional who works effectively with teachers, school leaders, families, and support staff to ensure scholars receive consistent and aligned support.

  • A clear and compassionate communicator who understands the importance of tone, empathy, and partnership when working with children and families.

  • Someone who seeks feedback regularly, reflects on practice, and implements changes quickly.

  • A highly organized and detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple priorities and proactively communicate needs and next steps.

  • A graduate of a Bachelor’s degree program (required), with prior experience working with elementary-aged students in schools, youth programs, counseling, mentoring, or related settings (preferred).

What You’ll Do

  • Build strong relationships with scholars to help them navigate behavioral expectations, social-emotional challenges, peer conflict, and daily school routines.

  • Support the implementation of joyful and developmentally appropriate school culture systems that keep scholars engaged, safe, and ready to learn.

  • Provide individualized and small-group behavioral and social-emotional interventions for scholars requiring additional support.

  • Collaborate closely with teachers and school leaders to reinforce consistent behavior expectations and intervention strategies across classrooms and settings.

  • Implement proactive behavior supports, restorative practices, social-emotional learning strategies, and positive reinforcement systems.

  • Monitor scholar progress and maintain accurate documentation related to behavior supports, interventions, family communication, and action plans.

  • Partner with families to build trust, communicate scholar progress, and collaborate on support strategies that promote student success.

  • Help facilitate Scholar Support Team meetings and contribute to action planning for scholars requiring additional behavioral or emotional support.

  • Create an inclusive school environment by participating in training, reflection, and dialogue related to race, identity, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Assume personal responsibility for the academic, behavioral, and emotional growth of all scholars.
