Job Title: Digital Arts Teacher – Upper School (High School)

Position Type: Faculty, Exempt, Full-time

Start Date: August 1, 2026

Reports to: Division Head

Salary Range:  $64,000 to $92,600 Annually

Your Role.

The Bear Creek School is currently seeking to add a member to our teaching team! Teachers are responsible for using a classical Christian education model to teach students, develop virtue, and help each student grow into the individual God intends. Lessons are carefully planned to inspire and motivate students and to support them in reaching the learning outcomes. The Upper School Digital Arts Teacher engages students in the study of the elements of art while developing their skills across a variety of media, including photography, film and animation, and graphic design. In this role, you play a vital part in advancing the mission of Bear Creek and helping children become the individual that God intends. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Approach classroom instruction and student interactions from a Christian worldview
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and department members to plan and implement the school’s liberal arts curriculum
  • Actively ensure academic growth in every student by utilizing a variety of instructional techniques
  • Build positive partnership with parents through proactive communication
  • Create a predictable and supportive classroom environment
  • Increase professional knowledge by participating in professional development opportunities
  • Plan and develop engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices for visual arts instruction, and prepare daily and weekly lesson plans to help students meet the learning goals 
  • Follow through on routine job responsibilities including grading, record keeping, attendance, and lesson planning
  • Maintain knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in middle school and upper school art education
  • Participate in collaborative evaluation processes with Division Head and Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings
  • Be involved in at least one co- or extra-curricular responsibility
  • Attend school events outside regular school hours including, but not limited to Parent/Teacher Conferences, Curriculum Night, arts performances, student socials, open houses, and professional development sessions
  • Maintain a learning environment that is organized and pleasant in appearance
  • Monitor halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff
  • Enforce safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build partnership with parents through proactive communication, attendance, and execution of events such as the Evening of Artists that may occur outside school hours
  • Inventory curriculum and supplies and manage the art budget under the oversight of the supervisor, requisitioning supplies as needed and approved
  • Collaborate with Fine Arts Department to develop and coordinate specific plans for implementing school curriculum and policy 
  • Knowledge of art education differentiated instruction
  • Curate and collaborate with other Bear Creek art educators for the school-wide art show, Evening of Artists
  • Research art processes, techniques, and projects that encourage creative critical thinking, creative problem solving, and art-making techniques that range from all levels of art learning (beginners to advanced) in one classroom setting
  • Instruct students in the digital arts of photography, film and animation, and graphic design
  • Provide opportunities for students to showcase their art at upcoming art contests and community art shows

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A degree in art education also preferred
  • Teaching credential preferred
  • Thorough understanding of pedagogy and the best practices of education
  • Desire to teach middle or upper school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status
  • Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research
  • Understanding of portfolio process and building an art portfolio for students interested in continued education at university
  • Foundational knowledge of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, with intermediate skill in drawing and various art making techniques
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Photoshop or related software
  • Familiarity or experience with a Christian classical model preferred
  • Hold CPR/AED/First Aid certification (with epinephrine autoinjector supplement) or obtain certification within 90 days of employment start date
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer (sponsorship not available for this position)
