The Upper School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous science instruction within a Christian classical educational framework. The teacher will cultivate intellectual curiosity about the natural world while guiding students to recognize the order, beauty, and design of God’s creation. This role requires strong classroom management, mastery of scientific content, and a commitment to integrating Christian faith and worldview into instruction and student mentorship.
The Upper School Science Teacher will contribute to the school’s mission of forming students who pursue truth, goodness, and beauty while developing strong academic habits and Christ-centered character.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
Teach upper school science courses, which may include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or other advanced science courses as assigned.
Plan and deliver clear, engaging, and academically rigorous lessons.
Integrate a Christian worldview into scientific instruction, encouraging students to understand science as the study of God’s created order.
Develop and implement lesson plans, laboratory activities, and assessments that support student mastery of course objectives.
Encourage critical thinking, inquiry, and intellectual curiosity through scientific investigation and discussion.
Maintain accurate records of student performance, grades, and attendance.
Classroom Management
Establish and maintain an orderly, disciplined, and respectful classroom environment.
Communicate clear expectations for student behavior and academic performance.
Promote a culture of responsibility, respect, and diligence among students.
Address disciplinary issues in accordance with school policies and procedures.
Student Development
Foster students’ intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth.
Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students.
Encourage students to develop habits of diligence, humility, and perseverance in their academic work.
Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding academic progress and classroom expectations.
Professional Responsibilities
Collaborate with fellow faculty members in curriculum planning and academic initiatives.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and school events.
Maintain professional communication with parents, colleagues, and school leadership.
Support the broader mission and community life of the school.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
Strong academic background in scientific study.
Professional Skills
Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom effectively.
Strong knowledge of secondary-level science content.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to design structured lessons and assessments.
Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a scientific discipline or education.
Prior teaching experience at the secondary or upper school level.
Experience in a Christian school or classical education environment.
Familiarity with classical pedagogy and the Trivium framework.
