Job Description - User Experience Design Manager


TekRecruiter has been asked to recruit a UI/UX Design Manager to join the team of an awesome enterprise medical technology company. This is a full-time position that will require some commute to the San Jose, CA office. The ideal candidate should live in a commutable distance or be willing to relocate near San Jose, CA at some point.

The UX/UI Design Manager is a leadership position leading a team of UX/UI designers focused on the design of software for devices that help scientists discover new biology (with a special focus on immunology and oncology). The ideal candidate will thrive in a work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication. The companies ongoing design and development work includes both Windows Embedded and desktop applications development, as well as web-based interfaces.

 

Responsibilities:



  • Drive the definition of Biosciences design vision and strategy.

  • Lead a team of UX/UI designers.

  • Conduct user research, interaction design and visual design as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Collaboratively plans and designs with engineers in an Agile-based environment.

  • Develops, follows, and communicates design guidelines, patterns, style sheets and libraries to create uniformity within the software engineering organization and brand recognition with our customers.

  • Ability to fit in well with a team, understand capabilities and priorities.

  • A deeply curious mindset about new insights.

 

Qualifications:



  • BA/BS/BFA degree in Design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications), Science (e.g., Molecular biology, Immunology, Chemistry, Physics) or other related fields

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience.

  • Proficient with industry standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Zeplin, Balsamiq, Sketch, Figma, Invision, Adobe Creative Suite).

  • Research experience in persona creation, usability testing, customer journeys. Ability to convey insights in crisp, clear, and actionable ways.

  • Experience implementing visual design systems across a range of platforms in an iterative software development environment.

  • Must be self-motivated to prioritize and manage workload and meet critical project deadlines.

  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, organization, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven customer focus, learning agility and situational awareness.

  • Self-directed with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies and trends.

Desired Qualifications:



  • Experience managing a design team.

  • Interest/experience in immunology or other life sciences applications.

  • Prior experience and consistent track record leading complex projects.

  • Proven knowledge of software development practices.

  • Solid understanding of applicable standards for medical devices: FDA QSR, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304.

  • Previous experience leading large, global software development efforts in the Healthcare IT space.
