Job Description - Utility Administrator



Full-time


Description

  

Purpose of Position

Provides administrative and clerical support for sanitation, water, and sewer utilities as well as aid in the day-to-day internal utility operations; also provides administrative support to Code.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

  • Completes and processes work orders for Code.
  • Processes citizens requests for water service, inspections, assistance with utilities, and general questions.
  • Processes payments and deposits for water, sewer, and sanitation through mail, walk-in and online payments.
  • Prepares and balances daily cash drawer for deposit.
  • Responds to requests to the public and answers phones.
  • Processes water and sewer billing monthly, manages billing process, oversees bill printing and mailing, completes billing process monthly.

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities

Assist in other departments as assigned.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

High school diploma or G.E.D.; 6-12 months of related experience

Preferred Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

12 months related experience 

Other Requirements – Certificates/Licensures

Valid Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, be a team player, be dead-line oriented, and maintain professionalism.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and follow general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or      governmental regulations.
  • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties.
  • Ability to work autonomously when necessary and be self motivated.
  • Ability to write and proofread reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Knowledge of general office skills, including filing practices and procedures, employee rules and regulations, multi-tasking,      typing and data entry, and City and municipal government operations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with customers, co-workers, and general public.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and the general public.

Lifting, moving, pushing, or pulling up to 10 pounds does not generally occur, but may occur when lifting boxes, books, or paper. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus, distance vision. Physical work consists of, but is not limited to, sitting for long periods of time, use of the computer, walking around the office, and lifting supplies over one’s head.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is not exposed to adverse conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The person in this position works regular hours, year-round with some flexibility when the workload demands it. The person in this position is never on call. 100% of the work for this position is indoors. The stress level associated with this position is average.
