Job Description - Utility Capacity Manager, Supercharger

The Supercharger Utility Capacity Manager role entails active program coordination of deployment phases of Tesla’s Supercharger projects requiring utility capacity upgrades. The ideal candidate has relevant experience working on distribution, transmission, and substation level projects, including design and project timeline reduction. S/he demonstrates a bias to action, logical problem solving, and mastery of project management. Finally, s/he brings high energy and an optimistic approach to fully completing projects in a swift and quality manner.
What to Expect

The Supercharger Utility Capacity Manager role entails active program coordination of deployment phases of Tesla’s Supercharger projects requiring utility capacity upgrades. The ideal candidate has relevant experience working on distribution, transmission, and substation level projects, including design and project timeline reduction. S/he demonstrates a bias to action, logical problem solving, and mastery of project management. Finally, s/he brings high energy and an optimistic approach to fully completing projects in a swift and quality manner.

What You’ll Do

Actively manage the utility relationship for distribution, transmission, and substation upgrades needed to build Supercharger projects.
Oversee all phases of design, entitlement, and construction of Supercharger sites where capacity upgrades are needed.
Facilitate field site visits for due diligence on construction, engineering, utility, and cost. Provide site reports and sketches as needed.
Review title reports for ownership, encumbrances, and easements to assess utility construction viability.
Serve as the liaison with utility company personnel to determine the best routing of primary electrical service and coordinate site power installations during design and construction phases.
Champion project review meetings with major utilities. Track and manage utility timelines, advocating for improvements.
Plan and coordinate EV charging/Tesla program review meetings with executives from major utilities.
Meet with zoning/permitting personnel to understand jurisdictional approval requirements for utility improvements and opportunities for timeline reduction.
Represent Tesla and the Supercharger program at public meetings. Track and manage status of all needed approvals.
What You’ll Bring

Minimum 3 years’ experience working on transmission and/or substation level projects. Utility experience is valuable.
Ability to travel (30-50%) required.
Established record of accomplishment managing and delivering multiple simultaneous projects ahead of schedule while adhering to the highest design and quality standards, without formal requirements documentation.
Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Advanced knowledge of site acquisition procedures, including regulatory and permitting processes.
Working knowledge of power integration and utility design processes.
Skilled in reading, understanding and redlining zoning and construction drawings, including utility designs and power distribution details.
Accountable to cost implications of utility construction design options and able to make cost-efficiency recommendations.
Aptitude in communicating and building relationships with property owners, local jurisdictions, utility companies and other stakeholders throughout the project cycle.

Expected Compensation
Associate Technical Construction Project Manager - $83,600 - $125,400/annual salary
Technical Construction Project Manager - $95,000 - $142,500/annual salary
Sr Technical Construction Project Manager - $117,800 - $176,700/annual salary
Staff Technical Construction Project Manager - $136,800 - $205,200/annual salary
Sr Staff Technical Construction Project Manager - $163,400 - $245,100/annual salary
Principal Technical Construction Project Manager - $190,000 - $285,000/annual salary
+ cash and stock awards + benefits for all levels

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
