Utility - Cashier

TITLE: CASHIER

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION: The purpose of this classification is to collect utility payments and to complete work orders for customers’ utility services. Employees in this classification respond to inquiries and provide explanations to customers; total cash and run and print reports, histories, and receipts. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

• Process payments for Utility and Finance Department.
• Balance cash drawer to Daily Cash Report.
• Prepare service orders for customers getting utilities turned on and off, water/sewer taps and temp poles.
• Run and read soft credit checks.
• Answer the telephone; provides information as requested.
• Turns in changes to update customer information in computer, changes billing addresses, ACH information, Gross Exempt cards.
• Review transaction history and print credit references for customers. 
• Prints consumption histories, credit reports, and receipts. 
• Files deposit cards.
• Collects past due bills on inactive accounts.
• Collects past due bills from customers. 
• Operates a personal computer, adding machine, copier, facsimile machine, printer, typewriter, two-way radio, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, including using a word processor, spreadsheet, database, or other system software. 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties as required. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED; one month of experience in cashiering or customer service work; or any equivalent

combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this

job.
