Utility Mechanic

Performs general and preventive maintenance throughout the  hospital and hospital owned off-site properties.  This position has the responsibility of  monitoring all utility conditions. 

Functions of the Position (not an exhaustive list):

•  Assist with preventative maintenance on equipment by inspecting equipment and  facilities for proper operation and working condition. Maintain routine records and  determined type/extent of malfunction and as necessary: adjust, disassemble, and  repair/replace parts or components, reassemble, and test for proper operation.  Report more serious problems to the Director of Plant Operations for instructions or  maintenance scheduling 
•  Assist with responding to all calls. Complete work orders for routine and  emergency repairs. Complete repairs and document services rendered
•  Attend steam boilers, hot water boilers and heaters. Make necessary  adjustments to assure proper steam pressure, combustion, water flow, water  level, and proper operation of safety devices and auxiliary equipment. 
•  Make repairs which may involve: adding or changing oil, replacing defective  controls, cleaning of heating and cooling coils, condensers, cooling towers,  making adjustment for proper operation, etc. 
• Repair fans, coils, valves controls, circulating pumps, compressors and other  related equipment as necessary 
•  Complete required reports for each job assignment, detailing time and materials  used for each completed task 

Qualifications:

Education: 

• High school graduate or equivalent, trade school preferred  

• Five (5) years of experience in utilities  

Necessary skills: (Other than trade skills) 

• Communication with vendors,  staff, and customers 

• Maintain strictest confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA  guidelines/regulations 

• Familiar with Regulatory Standards

Physical Demands: 

• Constant standing or walking 

• Lifting/carry up to 100 lbs 

• Push/Pull heavy equipment up to 250 lbs 

• Repetitive twisting and pressure involving hand and finger mobility 

• Reaching at all levels 

• Stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching 

• Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens 

Protective Equipment Required: 

• Safety glasses 

• Occasional use of rubber gloves or hearing protection 

• PPE as required
