Job Description - Utilityman/Conductor Trainee

Location: Clewiston Railroad Ops             


 


Job Responsibilities



  • Operate switches in any area of track

  • Safely transport personnel as needed

  • Ensure handbrakes are applied in rail yards

  • Perform brake test and customary car inspections

  • Line trains in and out of rail yards

  • Assist Conductors to safely expedite train movements in and out of rail yards

  • Assist train crews with point protection

  • Assist in lacing train line air hoses and bleeding off cars


 


Minimum Qualifications



  • Must pass all company designated tests designed to measure basic skills, job skills, mechanical aptitude and / or other interests, skills and characteristics with a minimum of 85% 

  • Must have all test(s) satisfactorily completed within the first 90 days

  • Must have a valid driver’s license Class E or above

  • Must have successfully completed the TOST/Ramsey Test

  • Must be able to work in either Clewiston or Bryant Yard(s)

  • Ability to maintain clear and proper communication by hand signals, radio and lanterns with Yardmasters, Remote Control Operators, Engineers and Conductors      

  • Check switch points for proper alignment

  • Ability to read, speak and write English

  • Ability to work with others and or alone with minimum supervision

  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate information pertaining to the job

  • Ability to follow proper safety and housekeeping procedures pertaining to the area

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations pertaining to the job

  • Ability to work the posted schedule in a production environment including shift work, overtime as necessary, holidays, nights and weekends

  • No active disciplinary action and good work history

  • Educational and pervious work experience will be considered

Working Conditions:



  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee works and drives in outside weather conditions on a regular basis.

  • Working conditions may be rainy, hot, humid, dusty, foggy etc. depending on the weather and may be at night time

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud 

  • Duties of this job are also performed in an office environment


 


 


Physical Requirements:



  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle and/or move various objects, tools and/or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, talk, hear, and see

  • Stand for long periods of time



  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Visibility must extend to 62’ and beyond.

  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary and use common office equipment

  • Ability to move or handle various items generally weighing between 0-75 pounds. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.

  • Ability to bend, climb and walk significant distances

  • Mount and dismount locomotive and check switch points for proper alignment


 


 


This position will be reporting to Mickey Watson and/or Trainmaster on duty.
