Job Description - Veterinary Assistant

Animal ER Care, LLC is a growing VECCS II and AAHA-accredited emergency hospital with two locations in the Pikes Peak region. We are seeking credentialed technicians experienced in emergency and critical care to join our practice.  



Our flagship practice is located within the Veterinary Specialty Center complex which houses multiple specialty practices including Southern Colorado Veterinary Internal Medicine, Mountain View Veterinary Surgery, Animal Dental Care and Oral Surgery, Animal Allergy and Dermatology, and Colorado Canine Orthopedics. We work collaboratively with our neighboring practices to provide well-rounded care to our patients. Some of the services available to the patients within the specialty center includes emergency stabilization of trauma and acute illness, continued care through internal medicine for chronic/advanced illness, CT and endoscopy, advanced orthopedic care, soft-tissue surgery, oncology, specialty dentistry, and more. Animal ER Care’s doctors practice up-to-date medicine and work together in a supportive environment to ensure we are providing comprehensive care to all pets.  



Our newest location, near Academy and Carefree, is operating during the day with the goal of being open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by the end of 2024. 



Our Assistants are primarily responsible for assisting technicians and DVMs with patient and hospital care. They are responsible for the prep of treatments, procedures, and assisting with patient care. They also play a significant role in the flow of patient care in the following departments:



Outpatient - our treatment area assistant's primary responsibilities are assistance patient care, setting up treatments, procedures, radiographs, sedations and anesthetic procedures. Run diagnostic tests as requested by DVM and Technicians.  Providing restraint utilizing Fear Free principles.



ICU Technician - our ICU Assistant's support the ICU nursing team with providing patient care to our most critical patients.  Under the direction of the Nurse Technicians and Doctor assistants will prepare medications and administer treatments, provide restraint, monitor patient output and maintain a stocked and clean ICU department.



Client Advocate Support (CAS) -  Working with the Front of House team and under the guidance of the Client Advocate (CA).  Candidates will perform the reassessments of patient vital signs once the Client Advocate has completed the initial assessment, the CAs will also assist the CCP with answering and triaging phone calls and assisting clients through the euthanasia process.


The CAS position is an essential part of the front of the hospital team and works closely with the Client Care Professional (CCP). 



EDUCATION AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS




  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Veterinary Technician Assistant Certification



 EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS




  • Minimum of 2 years progressive Assistant experience required, emergency/critical care experience preferred.

  • Minimum of 18 years old.

  • Must be able to work 12 hour shifts.

  • Has compassion for working with animals, especially in times when they are stressed, anxious, aggressive, ill, or in pain.

  • Can stay calm and collected during times of high stress and medical crisis.

  • Is a good communicator and is easily approachable.

  • Handles all aspects of their job in a mature fashion.

  • Excels in a team oriented environment and works well with all levels of hospital team members.

  • Must be able to lift animals up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, and be able to bend or crouch for restraint of patients. 

  • May be exposed to physical harm such as bites, scratches, and contagious diseases; and will be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, & animals.
