Pamlico Animal Hospital is a busy, small animal veterinary practice in Washington, NC, and we are looking for full-time, dependable, motivated individuals to join our team as veterinary assistants.
Veterinary assistants play a critical role in patient care, animal handling, hospital cleanliness, and client communication. This is a physically demanding, fast-paced position that requires focus, efficiency, and the ability to multitask throughout the day.

Full-time position
Flexible schedule required
Must be available to work any assigned shift, including those starting as early as 7:00 AM and those ending at 9:00 PM
Weekend and holiday availability required for all team members

What to Expect:
Working in veterinary medicine is rewarding, but it is also demanding. This is not a "puppies and kittens all day" position. It requires consistent hard work, emotional resilience, and attention to detail.
You will encounter:
Exposure to bodily fluids, feces, and strong odors
Potential bites and scratches
Exposure to contagious diseases
Busy days with shifting priorities and multiple responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
Patient Care: Walk, feed, change litter, monitor hospitalized patients, and report changes in health or behavior
Restraint: Safely and compassionately restrain patients, including anxious or aggressive animals
Cleaning & Sanitation: Disinfect cages, runs, treatment areas, equipment, floors, and yards to prevent the spread of disease; assist with laundry and dishes
Exam Room Support: Assist veterinarians during appointments; communicate clearly and professionally with clients
Laboratory & Equipment: Collect and prepare lab samples (blood, urine, fecal, ear cytology); operate IDEXX equipment, assist with radiographs and cold laser therapy
Pharmacy: Fill prescriptions, administer medications as directed, and provide client education per veterinarian's instructions
Computer Work: Accurately document treatments, manage billing, and maintain patient records in our electronic system
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Reliable transportation
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays
Strong work ethic and professional attitude
Punctual and dependable
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Receptive to feedback and direction
Compassion toward animals and people
Strong communication and customer service skills
Self-motivated with a desire to continue learning and growing
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Basic computer proficiency
Typing speed of at least 35 WPM with 95% or greater accuracy
