Job Description - Veterinary Assistant - Bostic Veterinary Hospital - VA


Join our team at Bostic Veterinary Hospital as a full-time compassionate and enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting our veterinary team in providing exceptional care to our animal patients and ensuring a positive experience for our clients. Your responsibilities will include assisting with animal handling, maintaining cleanliness in the hospital, preparing exam rooms, and providing assistance during medical procedures.


Bostic Veterinary Hospital is a full-service veterinary practice, with two veterinarians dedicated to providing the highest quality veterinary care for dogs and cats. Our modern facility combined with our talented veterinary staff ensures top-quality pet health care. We offer a full range of veterinary services, including pet wellness care, pet dentistry, veterinary surgery, boarding, grooming, and breeding services. Our accreditation by the American Animal Hospital Association reflects our mission to provide the latest in veterinary care and treatments to promote health and longevity. Bostic Veterinary Hospital is located in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and serves clients from the entire Hampton Roads area including Norfolk, Suffolk, and Chesapeake.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with various tasks, including animal restraint, medication administration, and sample collection.

  • Maintain a clean and organized clinic/hospital environment by disinfecting surfaces, sanitizing equipment, and cleaning kennels and cages.

  • Prepare examination rooms for appointments, ensuring they are well-stocked and organized.

  • Greet and assist clients, helping them feel welcome and comfortable during their visit.

  • Escort clients and their pets to exam rooms and obtain preliminary information, such as medical history and reason for the visit.

  • Provide support during medical procedures, including setting up equipment, holding animals, and monitoring their well-being.

  • Prepare and label laboratory samples accurately, following proper protocols.

  • Assist with radiography (X-rays) by positioning animals and operating equipment under the direction of the veterinary team.

  • Help educate clients on topics such as medication administration, preventive care, and post-operative instructions.

  • Keep accurate and detailed records of patient care, treatments, and interactions.

  • Assist with inventory management, restocking supplies, and maintaining an organized storage area.

  • Participate in maintaining a positive and collaborative team atmosphere.


Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Previous experience working with animals, preferably in a veterinary setting.

  • Strong animal handling skills and comfort working with a variety of species.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow directions closely.

  • Basic understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.

  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.

  • Physical stamina to lift and carry animals, stand for extended periods, and perform cleaning tasks.
