Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

Westport Animal Clinic is a well-established, progressive, fast paced multi-doctor small animal practice located in Topeka, Kansas. We offer many services to provide the best comprehensive care to our patients including Preventative Care, Surgery, High Speed Dentistry, Cold Laser Therapy, In-House Diagnostics, Digital full body radiology, Medical/Vacation Boarding and Pet Bathing.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Veterinary Assistant:

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management. Helping with kennels including walking dogs, feeding and watering, giving meds if needed, and keeping the kennels clean and comfortable

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Veterinary Receptionist: 

Maintain the visual appeal or the hospital reception area, greet and welcome clients and patients, answer questions and triage client concerns, answer calls or emails and direct to the appropriate party for resolution, schedule appointments to maximize efficiency and daily flow, check in and check out clients and process payments. Our receptionists offer friendly emotional support in a compassionate and discreet manner during times of need to our clients and must be comfortable with various medical outcomes.

We’re looking for:

• An experienced Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of 1-year experience preferred.
• Experienced Receptionist with a minimum of 1-year veterinary experience preferred
• Compassionate, Calm, Team Player, Multi-Tasker and Strong Communicator
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring are a bonus!
• Self-starter with the desire to continue to advance your knowledge and skillset.
• Highly organized and possess computer skills
