Job Description - Veterinary Emergency Department Manager



Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital is looking to hire an Assistant Hospital Service Manager to join its hospital in Woburn, MA.

Compensation:

  • Starting salary of $85,000, adjustable based on experience and qualifications.

The Assistant Hospital Services Manager is accountable for daily operations of the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Engages in real-time resource allocation to develop staff schedules (clinical and non-clinical) to assure maximum productivity and service while managing labor against budget
  • Regularly assesses the efficient and effective flow of clients and pets through the department while also ensuring proper care from arrival through discharge and follow-up
  • Evaluates the equipment and staffing needs for the department and recommends appropriate resources to meet those needs
  • Ensures all department work areas are clean, attractive, functional, safe, OSHA compliant and hospitable for staff, patients, and clients
  • Ensures all equipment is appropriate and in good working order and receives regular required maintenance
  • Develops and builds teams by encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members, incorporating the company’s vision, mission, and core values
  • Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring for technical and support staff positions
  • Ensures appropriate training for all staff including an exceptional understanding and delivery of customer service and hospitality
  • Works in collaboration with the leadership team to facilitate change management in the hospital
  • Serves as mentor and coach for technical and support staff requiring development and assistance in non-clinical matters
  • Resolves or approves any payroll matters through supervisors or directly, as needed.
  • Reports Workers’ Comp claims promptly
  • Supervises support staff personnel and participates in performance reviews and disciplinary actions

Education, License and Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
Schedule:
  • Four days per week, to include one weekend shift
  • 12PM-10PM

Skills and Experience:

  • 2 or more years of supervisory/management experience or 4 years of veterinary industry experience
  • Strong problem solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to mentor and build relationships
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role
