Role Overview
The Vice President of Business Development – Hospice leads sales strategy, team execution, and referral network expansion across assigned territories. This executive leadership role directs regional sales teams, cultivates high-level healthcare partnerships, and accelerates census and admissions growth. The position collaborates closely with clinical and operational leadership to achieve sustainable revenue goals while maintaining strict adherence to healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Strategy: Direct sales operations across designated regions, establishing scalable methodologies to consistently drive referral volumes, census numbers, and revenue targets.
Team Management & Coaching: Lead recruitment, onboarding, professional development, and performance management for regional sales directors and business development professionals.
Financial Planning & Analysis: Partner in establishing annual sales budgets, strategic growth targets, and regional P&L assessments; evaluate sales performance metrics to refine market approach.
Strategic Partnerships & Outreach: Build and maintain high-yield relationships with hospital systems, physician groups, skilled nursing facilities, and community healthcare leaders.
Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with clinical and operational executives to align business development initiatives with operational capacity and patient care standards.
Market Expansion: Identify emerging market trends, evaluate competitive landscapes, and pursue targeted outreach opportunities to increase brand presence at key industry events.
Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full operational compliance with corporate standards, state licensing rules, and federal healthcare regulations governing hospice care.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Healthcare Leadership: Minimum of five (5) years of healthcare sales leadership experience, with proven success driving growth specifically within hospice or home health sectors.
People Management: Direct, documented experience managing, mentoring, and holding other sales leaders accountable.
Regulatory & Financial Acumen: In-depth knowledge of federal and state hospice regulations, combined with practical experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and P&L oversight.
Technology & Data: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel and PowerPoint), CRM systems, and electronic reporting tools to analyze and present business data.
Mobility & Licensing: Valid driver’s license and active automobile liability insurance, with the ability to travel up to 60%.
