About the Position

The VP / Chief Quality Officer (CQO) is a key member of the senior leadership team at Reid Health and is responsible for creating a positive and progressive relationship with all staff members and will collaborate to foster a culture of safety,excellence and collaboration throughout the hospital. In addition, lead the organization to achieve all aspects of a High Reliability Organization, support the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization, leadership and staff development, employee relations, engagement and experience. The CQO will facilitate and coordinate quality improvement, peer review, clinical effectiveness and resource management, supporting the highest level of care and regulatory compliance.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Works with the President/CEO , medical staff and patient care staff to ensure a high level of quality in the patient services programs throughout the organization.
  • Attend senior leadership team meetings and work collaboratively with other senior leaders.
  • Demonstrate an ability to lead change, guide direct reports, and achieve interdisciplinary collaboration and HRO.
  • Hold all department and staff leaders accountable.
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to advance Infection prevention, patient safety, quality improvement, and patient experience functions.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team, RHPA NOC Chair to build high clinical quality, safe, and efficient care systems across the continuum. Actively participate as a member of NOC Quality Committee and partner closely with the Chair, which is focused on outpatient related quality efforts within RHPA practices
  • Track all key internal and external measures of clinical quality, patient safety, and infection control
  • Partner with Risk Management, Nursing Leadership and Quality in Root Cause Analyses and the improvement efforts that arise from them.
  • In collaboration with the CNO identifies opportunities to improve length of stay, coordination of care at discharge including effective hand off between levels of service. Works collaboratively to identify opportunities for improvement in quality of care that would effect a smooth transition to the next level of care and avoid readmission.
  • Participates in the annual operating and capital budget process for responisble departments.
  • Participates in efforts to ensure the continued economic and financial health of the system. This includes, but is not limited to, adapting to reimbursement changes, implementing programs identified in contractual agreements with payors, budget preparations, budget implementation, and budget monitoring.
  • Works actively to enhance and maintain a progressive, caring, and positive public image of the system. Establishes and maintains such relationships with outside businesses, agencies, and other health care organizations as are necessary and/or helpful in the accomplishment of the hospital's mission.
  • Works to remain current regarding present and future issues in the health care field. Participates in local, state and national associations.
  • In partnership with CEO, lead the culture to one of a high reliability organization.
  • Lead and support appropriate peer review process among the medical staff.
  • Develop strategies to improve the efficicency and throughput of the inpatients to reduce the LOS, improve clinical documentation integrity, improve CMI.
  • Assist and improve the quality of care by reducing mortality, readmissions,and aggressive management of other quality metrics like SSI, CLABSI, CAUTIs etc.,
  • Establish a positive work environment leading to high employee/provider engagement, teamwork and performance
  • Participates and provides key input in strategic planning for the system. Recommends changes in strategy, practice, policy, facilities, equipment and programs in order to achieve Reid’s mission, objectives and goals.
  • Continuously assesses staff skill needs. Enhances professional development of staff by implementing programs that address recruitment, retention, education, clinical performance and leadership.

Education & Experience

Education Required: Bachelors degree in nursing or related field.

Education Preferred:  MBA or MHA.

Experience Required: Hospital quality and CDI management experience along with 5+ years of management of inpatient physicians.

Experience Preferred: NA

Licensure: All applicable licensure must be maintained.

Certifications: NA
