Springbrook Software is the cloud finance and ERP platform trusted by 3,000+ local government agencies across the United States. Our Cirrus platform delivers modern, multi-tenant SaaS solutions spanning finance, payroll, HR, utility billing, property tax, budgeting, permitting, and payments helps communities deliver the responsive, secure, and transparent services citizens expect. We have been named to the GovTech Top 100 for six consecutive years and backed by Five Arrows and Accel-KKR, we are aggressively expanding the Cirrus platform and investing deeply in AI to define the next generation of government technology.
Position Overview
Reporting to the CTO, the VP of Enterprise Architecture is a key driver of Springbrook's technology future. This is a practitioner-leader role: you will define and drive enterprise-wide architecture strategy while staying deeply engaged with engineering teams at the design and code level. You will lead our migration from legacy platforms to a cloud-native architecture, unify fragmented data assets into a coherent data platform, and establish the standards and patterns that guide Cirrus platform engineering. We need someone equally comfortable presenting a multi-year roadmap to executives and pairing with a developer to work through a microservice boundary.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Strategy & Governance
Define and own the enterprise architecture vision, principles, and multi-year technology roadmap in partnership with the CTO and engineering leadership.
Establish a lightweight, federated Architecture Review Board (ARB) process that enables fast, high-quality decisions without becoming a bottleneck.
Evaluate emerging technologies; lead proofs-of-concept and communicate architectural trade-offs to executive and engineering audiences.
Cloud Architecture (Azure & AWS)
Own the cloud strategy across Azure and AWS, including IaaS/PaaS/SaaS patterns, hybrid governance, security, and cost optimization.
Drive adoption of cloud-native services, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Bicep), and CI/CD automation across all engineering teams.
Champion observability, reliability engineering, and proactive cost management.
Legacy Modernization
Lead the architecture for migrating legacy platforms to cloud-native solutions, balancing modernization pace with business continuity.
Decompose monolithic applications into well-bounded microservices using event-driven patterns, REST APIs, and domain-driven design.
Produce migration playbooks and reference architectures that accelerate modernization across multiple product lines simultaneously.
AI Partnership & Architecture
Springbrook's dedicated AI Center of Excellence leads AI product development. This role serves as a close architectural partner to the CoE leader by ensuring AI initiatives are grounded in sound, scalable platform architecture.
Collaborate with the AI CoE to define integration patterns for Generative AI, Agentic AI, and LLM-powered features across the Cirrus platform.
Establish architectural standards for model serving, MLOps pipelines, vector databases, and RAG patterns that the CoE and product teams build on.
Ensure the platform architecture makes great AI easy to build and ship - providing the foundation, not the ownership.
Full-Stack & Application Architecture
Provide hands-on architectural direction across the full stack: front-end (React, Angular), back-end services, REST/event-driven APIs, and data layers.
Define and govern API design standards, service contracts, versioning, and API gateway/service mesh strategies.
Work directly alongside senior engineers on complex design challenges by reviewing code, contributing spikes, and modeling best practices.
Data Platform & Integration
Define the enterprise data architecture: unifying data silos into a governed platform spanning data lakes, warehouses, and streaming pipelines.
Establish master data management, data modeling, governance, and quality standards across all Cirrus modules.
Lay the architectural foundation for AI/ML feature stores, analytics, and real-time integration with customer and partner systems.
Team Leadership
Lead and mentor a team of senior architects and principal engineers; build a strong architecture community of practice across Springbrook engineering.
Partner with engineering managers to align architectural direction with delivery capacity; develop and retain senior technical talent.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of cloud architecture experience with deep, hands-on expertise in both Azure and AWS (certifications a strong plus).
Demonstrated success leading large-scale legacy modernization including decomposing monoliths, migrating to cloud-native, maintaining business continuity throughout.
Full-stack development background: React and/or Angular, back-end services (.NET or Java/Spring Boot), REST and event-driven API design.
Production-grade microservice and event-driven architecture experience (Kafka, Azure Service Bus, API gateways, service mesh).
Hands-on experience building enterprise data platforms, data lakes/warehouses (Azure Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake), ETL/ELT pipelines, data governance.
Familiarity with AI/ML platform patterns: LLM integration, MLOps, vector databases, and RAG architecture.
