Job Description - Vice President of Mission and Communications, FT

Description

 Founded in 1850, Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community is the leading not-for-profit, faith-based senior living community in the Southeast serving some 500 residents and over 600 team members. It is located on 125 acres of lush marshlands and majestic oaks on James Island, just 10 minutes from historic downtown Charleston, one of the most vibrant small cities in the US with exceptional arts and culture, healthcare, and educational resources. 

 

Bishop Gadsden is seeking an exceptional individual to join our leadership team as Vice President of Mission and Communications. This key role oversees all charitable giving initiatives that advance Bishop Gadsden’s Charitable Mission, as well as spearheading branding, marketing (non-sales), social media, public relations, and internal communications for the Bishop Gadsden Community and its additional lines of business.  As a vital member of the Strategic Planning Committee, the Vice President of Mission and Communications contributes to shaping and supporting the organization’s future planning efforts. This position offers a unique opportunity to drive meaningful impact through innovative leadership and strategic vision.

A Typical Day:

  • Cultivate a culture of giving throughout the community – residents, families, team members, future residents, etc. 
  • Provide leadership and vision for Bishop Gadsden’s strategic and integrated marketing and communications functions. 
  • Maintain positive inter-departmental and team member relations and communications, promoting teamwork and a culture of cooperation and support. 
  • Recruit and manage the Charitable Giving and Communications department, hiring skilled team members who represent the culture of the department and the community positively. 
  • Develop a departmental budget, including marketing budgets for Bishop Gadsden at Home, BeBG Recruitment, Lifestyle, Gadsden Glen Health and Rehab, the Embark program, and future lines of business. 
  •  Plan, promote, and administer fundraising activities that advance the ministry of charitable giving and other campaign and endowment goals.
  •  Develop and implements all internal and external communication products to ensure further strengthening of Bishop Gadsden in the marketplace, including current and future lines of business, as well as general team member recruitment, be it print or digital.
  •  Coordination of media and public relations to ensure positive coverage of Bishop Gadsden, advancing its overall company goals and mission.  
  •  Serve as company spokesperson and media contact (along with the President/CEO and VP/COO).
  • Assist with interior design projects, personally executing or supporting the selected vendor and FFE needs throughout the Community. 
  • Support advocacy efforts for Bishop Gadsden and the senior living field as an active member of LeadingAge. 

Requirements

What We Need In A Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in management or related field required or equivalent education and experience which allow the successful completion of the major job functions. 
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in development and fundraising and communications. 
  • Supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Computer literate and working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.). 
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written. 
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, reach, and lift (up to 50 pounds +/-) to file and fulfill general position duties.  
  • Ability to work in a professional office environment and represent the community both in manner and appearance.
