Job Description: Vice President of Philanthropy 


Reports to: CEO / President


Position Summary


The Vice President of Philanthropy leads the organization's comprehensive fundraising strategy, driving sustainable revenue growth to support food security programs. This executive leader oversees major gifts, corporate partnerships, grant management, and donor engagement, using data-driven insights to increase food distribution and nutritional access across the service region. The ideal candidate will embody the organization's values of teamwork, humility, and dedication to the mission.


Key Responsibilities



  • Strategic Revenue Generation: Define and execute a multi-year development strategy to diversify funding, reducing reliance on public funding and increasing unrestricted revenue.

  • Major Gifts & Donor Cultivation: Build a 7-figure portfolio of high-value donors, managing the full cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycle.

  • Corporate & Community Partnership: Lead corporate partner strategies, including workplace campaigns, food drives, and sponsorships that leverage local business networks.

  • Team Leadership & Data-Driven Culture: Mentor a development team, fostering a high-performance culture that uses CRM (e.g., Bloomerang) for actionable, data-driven decision-making.

  • Board & Executive Collaboration: Partner with the Board of Directors to identify and secure philanthropic investment, acting as a key advisor to the CEO. 



Key Metrics


1. Revenue & Growth Metrics



  • Total Revenue Growth: Achieve a [X]% year-over-year increase in total philanthropic revenue.

  • Major Gift Revenue: Secure [Amount] in new major gifts (5-, 6-, and 7-figure level) annually.

  • Unrestricted Funding Growth: Increase unrestricted funding by [X]% to support operational flexibility.

  • Corporate Giving/Sponsorships: Increase corporate contributions by [X]% through new partnerships and workplace campaigns. 


2. Donor Management Metrics



  • Donor Retention Rate: Maintain a [X]% donor retention rate, focusing on keeping donors engaged year-over-year.

  • Donor Retention (First-Time): Increase first-year donor retention by [X]%.

  • Moves Management: Ensure 100% of major donor portfolio has a documented, actionable "move" (meaningful engagement) at least every [X] months.

  • Number of Meaningful Interactions: Average [X] face-to-face or virtual visits per fundraiser per month. 


3. Operational Efficiency Metrics



  • Cost per Dollar Raised (CPDR): Maintain a CPDR of less than [X] cents for all fundraising efforts.

  • ROI of Campaigns: Measure and improve the return on investment for annual food drives and signature events.

  • Data Accuracy & Health: Achieve a "Great" or "Good" score on annual database health assessments. 


4. Impact-Aligned Metrics 



  • Cost per Meal: Increase funds raised per dollar, reducing the cost per pound of food sourced.

  • Supporter Conversion: Increase the percentage of donors who move from event-based support to monthly, recurring giving (sustaining givers). 


 


Qualifications & Skills



  • Experience: 10-15+ years of progressively responsible nonprofit fundraising experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in securing six- and seven-figure gifts, high-net-worth individual cultivation and corporate partnership management.

  • Leadership: Experience managing high-performing teams and working with volunteers.

  • Skills: Expertise in CRM systems, data analysis, and relationship-based fundraising. Experience with food systems, human services, or public health is highly preferred.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field; CFRE or advanced certification is preferred.

  • Salary: $120,000, paid bi-weekly
