Florida Vice President of Schools

Position Overview

The Florida Vice President of Schools (VPS) is the senior statewide leader responsible for academic performance, principal effectiveness, and campus execution across all IDEA Florida schools. Reporting to the Florida Executive Director, the VPS directly supervises and evaluates all campus principals and academic coaches and holds full accountability for statewide school performance outcomes.

The VPS sets and drives a cohesive academic strategy across six campuses, ensuring strong implementation of instructional systems, disciplined performance management, and measurable gains in student achievement, college matriculation, and organizational health. While supported by Directors of Leadership Development who provide targeted coaching to school leaders, the VPS retains direct management authority and evaluation responsibility for all principals.

This role requires a strategic, data-driven executive who can translate ambitious goals into disciplined execution. The VPS must operate with clarity, urgency, and strong judgment while building high-performing leadership teams capable of delivering exceptional results for students and families statewide.

Location

This is a full-time position based in Florida. Frequent travel across IDEA Florida campuses will be required.

Compensation

Salary typically ranges between $130,000 and $165,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for a performance-based bonus tied to statewide outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

 

Statewide School Performance & Accountability

  • Directly supervise, evaluate, and develop all campus principals across IDEA Florida.
  • Hold full accountability for statewide academic performance, school grades, college matriculation outcomes, student persistence, and attendance.
  • Lead rigorous performance management cycles to ensure principals meet or exceed performance benchmarks.
  • Drive corrective action and targeted support when campuses fall short of goals.

 

Academic Strategy & Execution

  • Set and implement a cohesive statewide academic vision aligned to IDEA Florida’s college-going mission.
  • Ensure 100% implementation of high-quality curriculum and instructional systems across campuses.
  • Lead statewide analysis of student achievement data and translate findings into actionable improvement plans.
  • Monitor leading indicators and adjust strategy to ensure strong end-of-year results.

 

Leadership Development & Talent Strategy

  • Oversee and manage the Directors of Leadership Development, ensuring coaching priorities align with statewide performance goals.
  • Retain high-performing principals and proactively develop successor leaders.
  • Ensure rigorous talent review processes are conducted consistently for campus leadership.
  • Build leadership capacity across schools to support long-term sustainability.

 

Cross-Functional Leadership & Alignment

  • Partner with the Florida Executive Director and VP of Operations to align academic priorities with operational, financial, and talent strategies.
  • Collaborate with statewide and National team partners to ensure strong implementation of policies and initiatives.
  • Represent school performance strategy in executive-level planning and decision-making.

 

Performance Goals

The Vice President of Schools is accountable for ensuring IDEA Florida meets or exceeds the following statewide benchmarks:

  1. Schools achieve or maintain a school grade of B or higher.
  2. 100% of IDEA seniors are accepted to and matriculate to college in the fall following graduation.
  3. 25% of IDEA alumni graduate college within four years; 55% graduate within six years.
  4. The region and each school meet student persistence goals.
  5. The region and each school attain Average Daily Attendance and Chronic Absenteeism targets.

 

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree ; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of successful school leadership experience (Principal or equivalent).
  • Experience directly supervising and evaluating school leaders.
  • Demonstrated success driving measurable academic gains.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple campuses or large-scale instructional teams.
  • Expertise in Florida accountability systems and regulatory requirements strongly preferred.
  • Strong track record of leading through change while maintaining performance.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and ability to translate data into strategic action.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence across functions.
