About the Role
The Vice President, Strategic Communications is the key leader responsible for defining and driving the institution's brand, including key messages, values, and voice. This role involves proactive management of brand messages and dissemination of news and information to both internal and external audiences, encompassing media relations, social media, and content creation. The VP also coordinates with Athletics' communications to ensure alignment with the overall strategic communications. A strategic vision for the communications office is created in line with the president's priorities, and the VP prepares and implements a strategic plan, establishes institutional communication policies, and oversees crisis management messaging. Additionally, the VP serves as the chief spokesperson, represents the institution to the media, and leads a communications team, managing both fiscal and human resources.Candidates for the Vice President, Strategic Communications position must have at least a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years' of experience as a professional communicator, with at least 3 years' in a managerial role. Preferred qualifications include a degree in a related field, advanced credentials in public relations or business communications, and experience in a complex organization, particularly in higher education, health care, government, or non-profit sectors. The role requires strong skills in working with the media, including relationship building and crisis communication, as well as experience in brand management and strategic communication planning. The successful candidate will be adept at leading a team of communication professionals and must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
