Location: Middletown, NY
Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Reports To: Crisis Services Manager

About the Role

The Victim Services – Campus Education & Sexual Assault Advocate plays a vital role in supporting survivors of sexual violence while leading impactful prevention and education efforts on college campuses across Orange County. This position blends hands-on crisis intervention with dynamic campus and community education, offering an opportunity to create lasting change at both the individual and systemic levels.

This is a mission-driven role ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, believes deeply in social justice, and is passionate about survivor advocacy, education, and equity.

  

Position Highlights & Compensation

  • Hourly  Rate: $20/hour
  • On-Call Benefits: 
    • $150  voucher for after-hours, in-person accompaniments
    • $2/hour stipend for all scheduled on-call hours with no accompaniment
  • Paid  Time Off: Holidays, vacation, personal, and sick leave
  • Employment  Status: Non-Exempt, Grant-Funded (contingent on funding)

  

Key Objectives

  • Provide  front-line, trauma-informed advocacy and crisis intervention to primary and secondary survivors of sexual violence.
  • Deliver  and coordinate NYS Department of Health – Enough is Enough prevention education on college campuses.
  • Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable environment aligned with MHA’s Cultural Equity Policy and Welcome Orange initiative.

  

Advocate Responsibilities – Survivor Services

As a Victim Services Advocate, you will:

  • Provide compassionate, survivor-centered crisis counseling, safety planning, advocacy, and emotional support.
  • Conduct  survivor intakes to assess eligibility, identify needs, and build  individualized service plans.
  • Educate survivors on consent, confidentiality, medical and legal options, forensic evidence collection, survivors’ rights, and community resources.
  • Accompany  survivors to hospitals, police departments, courts, Title IX hearings, and other critical appointments—often on short notice.
  • Assist  survivors with NYS Office of Victim Services (OVS) compensation claims and applications.
  • Offer  both in-person and telephone crisis intervention and short-term counseling services.
  • Serve as an on-call advocate up to 14 days per month, providing 24/7 emergency response.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential documentation, case notes, and required reports in accordance with agency policy.
  • Build  and sustain strong partnerships with law enforcement, hospitals, the      District Attorney’s Office, Child Advocacy Centers, and community organizations.
  • Participate in community awareness events, coalitions, task forces, and statewide meetings.
  • Support  the Senior Sexual Assault Examiner (SAE) with compliance efforts, training coordination, and schedule management.
  • Maintain survivor files with care, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Complete  and maintain certification as a NYS DOH Rape Crisis Counselor.
  • Fulfill  Mandated Reporter responsibilities, reporting suspected child abuse when required.

  

Campus Education Coordinator Responsibilities – Enough is Enough

In this role, you will also serve as a Campus Education Coordinator, responsible for advancing prevention and education on college campuses by:

  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with local colleges and universities.
  • Implementing the Enough is Enough program to address sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.
  • Planning and facilitating engaging education sessions, trainings, and awareness events for students, faculty, staff, parents, and extended campus communities.
  • Acting as the primary liaison with college administration, including collaboration around Title IX-related initiatives and hearings.
  • Creating educational materials, promotional content, and innovative prevention projects in partnership with campus stakeholders.
  • Delivering advocacy, education, and outreach through a social justice and equity-centered  lens, with emphasis on gender-based violence, systemic inequality, and intersectionality.

  

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in agency committees and initiatives as assigned.
  • Assist  with fundraisers and special events (some outside normal business hours).
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and evolving needs of the agency.

Requirements

  

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience (one required):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
    OR
  • Associate’s Degree with at least two (2) years of relevant experience
    OR
  • High School Diploma with at least four (4) years of relevant experience

Skills & Requirements:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Confidence  facilitating educational presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in crisis situations.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Commitment  to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in on-call coverage.
  • Valid  NYS Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Demonstrated  understanding of—and commitment to—social justice values.
  • Bilingual  Spanish/English strongly preferred.
