The role of the Violence Prevention Professional (VIPP) is pivotal in the Connecticut Violence Intervention Program dedicated to reducing and preventing violence through community engagement, education, and support services. integral to the effective execution of these strategies, which are designed not only to diminish instances of violence but also to foster a culture of safety and resilience within the community. This professional is responsible for leveraging evidence-based practices, facilitating collaboration among stakeholders, and implementing targeted interventions that are informed by a deep understanding of the local context and the specific needs of at-risk populations. 

 

The Violence Prevention Professional engages in ongoing assessment and analysis to fine-tune these strategies, ensuring that they remain responsive to emerging trends and challenges in violence prevention. Through sustained community engagement and the promotion of educational curricula, this role not only seeks to reduce immediate threats but also works to build long-term capacity for peace and security across communities.

 

▪      Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement violence prevention programs and initiatives.

▪      Develop educational materials and resources for community outreach.

▪      Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and local agencies to foster collaboration in violence prevention efforts.

▪      Conduct workshops, training sessions, and community forums to educate the public about violence prevention strategies.

▪      Conduct assessments to identify the needs and resources of the community regarding violence prevention.

▪      Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives.

▪      Provide immediate support and intervention for individuals affected by violence.

▪      Collaborate with law enforcement, social services, and other agencies to coordinate responses to incidents of violence.

▪      Advocate for policies and practices that promote safety and reduce violence within the community.

▪      Engage in public speaking and outreach to raise awareness about violence prevention.

▪      Train staff and volunteers on violence prevention techniques and best practices.

▪      Provide ongoing support and guidance for individuals seeking help or resources related to violence issues.

▪      Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent 

▪      Advanced experience in crisis intervention, case management, or direct service provision for individuals impacted by violence is preferred.  

▪      Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.  

▪      In-depth knowledge of community resources and services available for individuals affected by violence.  

▪      Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while managing multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment.  

▪      Strong commitment to confidentiality, ethical practice, and the principles of trauma-informed care.

▪      The position may require traveling to various locations, including educational institutions, courts, hospitals, and community events.  Must be willing to work in high-risk areas, adapting to dynamic and potentially challenging environments.  

▪      Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as the role may involve evening or weekend work to meet participant needs and align with program demands.
