Virtual Design Construction Intern - Summer 2024 - Professional Development Opportunities

The Christman Company is seeking an enthusiastic and talented student innovator interested in gaining experience in the construction industry within our Virtual Design Construction (VDC) team as a VDC Intern. This internship will provide a great hands-on opportunity to learn how to leverage the use of Building Informational Modeling (BIM) technologies using innovative project management methods, including model data extraction for quantity takeoffs and estimating purposes, constructability reviews, assist with design coordination using automated clash detection methods, and construction sequencing animations for pre-construction planning. The internship will offer opportunities to support team members and bring value by recognizing challenges early and planning ahead for important project activities. To be successful in this role, you must have an aptitude for team-based planning, problem-solving, and wholehearted commitment to building strong partnerships to support project goals.

Basic Responsibilities:

• Enjoys being a team member and a problem solver.
• Read and interpret drawings and specifications.
• Works with the following core software; Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD.
• Develop 3D models from 2D documents in Revit.
• Understands complexity of BIM beyond clash detection.
• Assist project teams through MEP coordination in accordance with standard processes and best practices; including using management tracking tools.
• Become proficient in using BIM for 3D Visualization and clash detection.
• Assists in driving project deadlines.
• Communicate with all parties; designers, trade contractors and Christman staff to ensure BIM processes are aligned with project goals and processes.
• Assists team through bid process front end docs, process AE models, and communicate with bidders.
• Process AE models for company's use.
• Successfully incorporates specialty BIM scope into project workflow (e.g. 3D laser scanning).
• Become proficient in using BIM for 4D Scheduling, for 5D estimating with the Project Planning Group peers, and 6D for Facility Management.
• Become proficient in creating marketing graphics, renderings, and animations.
• Works with design team during preconstruction to provide BIM-enabled constructability review.
• Assists VDC group updating and maintaining document standards and processes.

Requirements
Best-suited candidates will have the following education and experience or equivalent:

• Sophomore or Junior level college student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• Participation and/or leadership in construction, engineering or other related organizations.
• Previous experience in the commercial construction industry preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA; 3.40 GPA or higher preferred.
