Virtualization Engineer

We are looking for a Virtualization Engineer to join Verisign’s Corporate Operations team responsible for building, managing, maintaining and scaling virtual infrastructure on which our mission-critical services are deployed or depend. Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, and support all aspects of VMware and Oracle KVM virtualization platforms


• Monitor and maintain the virtual environment’s health, performance, and capacity to ensure optimal operation and availability


• Strong scripting experience using Ansible, Python, and Shell to automate for consistency, efficiency and repetitive tasks


• Performs daily operations support functions in a 24x7 environment - including system deployments, patching, installation, configuration, maintenance, problem isolation and resolution within production, QA and development environments; environments include physical servers, virtualization, operating systems, and automation tools


• Documentation of processes, procedures, configurations, and deployment plans


• Provide incident response and root cause/mitigation to include security vulnerabilities, performance degradation and system outage analysis


• Participates in team on-call rotation and planned weekend activities

The candidate must have:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience 


• 8+ years of operations administration experience managing mission-critical systems


• Professional experience with Red Hat Linux system administration in a production environment highly preferred


• Critical thinker with problem solving aptitude and thrives for implementing process improvements


• Proficient with automation- Not just developing automation, but knowing why we automate and what to automate 


• Strong written and verbal communication skills – able to clearly and succinctly describe complex issues


• Familiarity with networking protocols, system monitoring and performance tools

This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule

The pay range is $120,500 - $163,100. 

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
