Vital Statistics/HUT Clerk

POSITION SUMMARY:

Retrieves, maintains and enters Obstetric and Newborn statistical information into Illinois State system. Completes birth certificate and fetal death certificate process. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and education experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

High School graduation or equivalent. At least one year related data entry experience. Medical secretarial experience preferred. Must provide copy of diploma/degree for highest level of education obtained.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Maintain Bi-annual CPR required.

Completion of Sitter education, EKG, and Phlebotomy training.

Mother/Baby: EKG and Phlebotomy training are not applicable. CNA certification required

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Must be able to read, write legibly and communicate effectively in English and Spanish preferred. Interacts with staff, physicians, patients and their families and community resources. Knowledge of computer software. Ability to type 30 words per minute.

Successful completion of annual job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.

Excellent verbal, written, organizational and customer service skills required. Strong phone etiquette skills required. Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal with all levels within the organization and community under varied conditions. Familiarity with medical terminology preferred. Basic knowledge of data entry skills preferred. Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
