$35,838.40 - $39,422.24 Annually                       $1,378.40 - $1,516.24 Bi-weekly


Position Summary


The most important responsibility of the Vocational Instructor II SES is to implement programs for the developmentally disabled adults living at Sunland in the area of work options and consumer services.  Areas of primary responsibility include but are not limited to Post Office, Bank, Clothing, Coffee Shop, etc.


 


The Work You Will Do 


Perform work of a technical nature which may require certification or license.  This may include but is not limited to the following: operating a computer, sewing machine(s), skill saw, air compressor, driving a vehicle, postage meter, postage scales, kitchen appliances, cash register, etc.


 


Provide functional supervision of work trainees.  Assume inventory responsibility as well as maintaining a clean and orderly environment.   This position may provide acquisition programming to assigned workers.


 


In the areas of work training, the Vocational Instructor II SES is required to inventory transactions daily and compile as a unit monthly for accountability purposes.  Prepare statistical reports as deemed necessary for the Center to accomplish its mission as well as department goals.


 


The Vocational Instructor II SES is required to complete at least annually assessments and develop objectives for active treatment plans.  This also includes writing summaries of progress reports and addendums as necessary to Support Plans and discharge summaries.  Attend Support Plan and Active Treatment meetings as required.


 


Designing and implementing work training programs to assist individuals accomplish goals and objectives as identified in their Support Plan.  This includes safety, health and social skills that relate to their work assignments.  This will also include functional supervision of trainees.  Additionally, assisting with community contract development.


 


Conduct in-service training to Vocational Instructor I’s and other staff utilizing modeling and demonstration techniques to ensure that the work training programs are properly accomplished.


 


Regularly monitor training programs as well as consumer services to ensure continuity and promote generalization of the skill learned.  This monitoring includes providing pertinent feedback to all staff.


 


Keeping abreast and maintaining a working knowledge of applicable APD and Center policies, including applicable articles of the AFSCME contract.


 


Perform other related duties as required.


 


Minimum Qualifications


 



  • Preferred: At least one year of supervisory experience over employees

  • Preferred: At least one year of experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities.

  • Preferred: At least one year of experience working in a deli, café, or food service environment that includes experience preparing and cooking.


 


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities



  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.

  • Knowledge of a skilled vocation such as industrial arts, shoe repair or general maintenance.

  • Skill in performing a skilled vocation such as industrial arts, shoe repair or general maintenance.

  • Ability to work in a training capacity with people in individual and group settings.

  • Ability to collect, record and evaluate data relating to the training of individuals.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and other instructional materials.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to speak clearly and correctly to individuals and groups.

  • Ability to listen effectively.

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to vocational instruction.

This will be accomplished by Electronic Funds Transfer. Banks, savings and loan associations, and credit unions are eligible to accept such deposits. Retirement funds are also required to be in the Direct Deposit Program.


 


Background Screening Requirement


It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.

Level 2 background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for Statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies.


 


Pursuant to S. 110.1127(1), Florida Statutes, this position requires a background investigation, including fingerprinting.
