Position Overview
The Volunteer Cultivator is a relational, people-centered role responsible for building meaningful, healthy, and sustainable relationships with volunteers at Salt + Light. This position focuses on care, connection, and continuity—ensuring volunteers feel welcomed, valued, and clearly guided in their service.
This role is not administrative-heavy, marketing-focused, or event-driven. It is centered on human connection, clarity, and stewardship of relationships, helping volunteers move from one-time service to long-term engagement and belonging.
The Volunteer Cultivator works closely with the Community Engagement Liaison, Operations, and Development teams to ensure volunteers are integrated into the life and mission of Salt + Light in ways that honor dignity, capacity, and sustainability.
This is a full-time, relationship-driven role ideal for someone who is warm, organized, emotionally intelligent, and deeply aligned with Salt + Light’s values.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Cultivation & Care
- Serve as the primary relational point person for volunteers
- Build ongoing relationships through personal check-ins, follow-ups, and presence
- Create a culture where volunteers feel known, appreciated, and connected
- Support volunteers through transitions, changes in roles, and evolving capacity
Onboarding & Integration
- Guide new volunteers through onboarding and orientation processes
- Ensure clarity around expectations, culture, and dignity-centered service
- Help volunteers find meaningful roles that align with their gifts, availability, and interests
Retention & Pathways
- Identify opportunities for deeper engagement (recurring service, leadership roles, advocacy, or giving)
- Support pathways from first-time volunteer ? consistent volunteer ? community leader
- Partner with Development and Community Engagement to identify high-capacity or highly invested volunteers
Coordination & Handoff
- Collaborate with Operations for scheduling, logistics, and service flow
- Partner with Community Engagement Liaison for group volunteers and community partners
- Communicate clearly with staff to ensure smooth volunteer experiences
Systems & Tracking
- Maintain accurate volunteer records in VOMO
- Create and maintain opportunities in VOMO
- Communicate openly and consistently with team and other departments
- Track engagement, participation, and retention trends
- Share insights with leadership to improve volunteer experience and strategy
Qualifications

Preferred Experience (Not Required)
- Volunteer coordination or community engagement experience
- Nonprofit, church, or community organization background
- Hospitality, customer service, or people-care roles
